The Lady Dutchmen of MOC Floyd Valley are off to a tremendous start, going 3-0 at their first home tournament of the season. MOC, currently ranked 5th in the state in Class 3A, capped off their tournament victory with a win over Class 4A 3rd ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

“We really just went in wanting to play our game. We focused our efforts on getting touches at the net to slow their offense down. The biggest thing for us was serving at the right people to keep them out of system and take away their hitting options. That is something we executed very well,” states MOC head coach, Kate Boersma.

The match was Tuesday, August 28th where the Dutch took down the Warriors in a three-set thriller (17-21, 21-18, 15-12). MOC-Floyd Valley stand-outs in the match were Jazlin De Haan (sophomore OH) with 14 kills, Zoe Heemstra (senior MB) with 5 kills, and Jadeyn Schutt (senior setter) with 23 assists and 2 aces.

“Jadeyn Schutt did a great job reading the game and getting the ball to our hitters at the right time. Zoe Heemstra was a beast at the net, running a ton of different options in the middle and Jazlin De Haan hammered away through, around, and over the block,” states Boersma.

Prior to the championship match, MOC-Floyd Valley defeated both Le Mars and Spencer in two sets each. Last year, MOC held a 24-10 overall record and 8-1 conference record, earning them 2nd place in the Siouxland Conference.

The Lady Dutchmen will face big competition next weekend at the Sioux County Tournament where they will likely meet powerhouse programs hailing from Western Christian, Unity Christian, and Sioux Falls Christian (SD). “We are really excited about this season. We have put in a lot of time and effort to get to where we are right now,” states Boersma.
