The Goslings’ only losses have come to Arrowhead, Kenosha Bradford, Waunakee and Slinger.
Perhaps most impressive, Watertown has four players with more than 100 kills. Upon further analysis, one can see the Goslings are paced by a strong group of upperclassmen. Here are five playmakers pacing the Goslings this season:
Brianne Korducki, senior, middle/outside hitter
As Watertown’s leading striker, Korducki has nearly 200 kills (197) and a .353 hitting percentage. In addition, the 5-11 senior has 71 digs and 37 blocks.
Against Kenosha Bradford, Korducki pounded 15 kills in a 2-1 loss September 8. Also, in wins over Oregon and Fort Atkinson, she had 11-kill matches. In a 3-0 sweep of Stoughton, she posted 10.
In addition, Korducki is no slouch along the service line. She has 33 aces, including seven in a two-set sweep of West De Pere. Also, on defense, the senior recorded four blocks against Edgewood and also eight against Oregon.
Sheridan Dettman, senior, libero
Dettman is a digging machine. Showing supreme hustle, she has a whopping 322 digs, averaging 5.2 per set.
In an impressive feat, Dettman posted a season-high 25 digs against Oregon September 13. In a season-opening tournament August 21, Dettman collected 37 in four sets against Arrowhead and Waunakee. She also posted 19 in a 3-0 sweep of Stoughton.
Along the service line, Dettman has 34 aces. Against Edgewood, she had four in a 2-0 win.
Samantha Gray, junior, outside hitter
At 5-7, Gray isn’t an imposing force along Watertown’s front line, but she gets the job done.
Taking a closer look, the junior has 135 kills and is hitting .323. To add to her resume, she has 50 digs and 16 blocks. On August 23, Gray posted 10 kills in a 3-0 sweep of Milton. She also had nine in the Oregon victory. Also, Gray is consistent, averaging 2.2 kills per set.
On defense, Gray came through with five digs vs. Kenosha Bradford.
Allison Stair, junior, outside hitter
Stair, a 5-9 junior, is also a defensive stopper with 173 digs. Against Oregon, she finished with 18 digs. In addition, she posted 11 against Arrowhead and 10 apiece in wins over Germantown and Milton.
With nearly 30 service aces, Stair is also a reliable server. Offensively, she has 112 kills.
Alayna Westenberg, sophomore, outside hitter
Westenberg, only a sophomore, is Watertown’s “Miss Do Everything.”
Westenberg has 11 kills, 57 digs, 18 aces and 27 blocks. She notched 14 kills in the Milton win and also seven vs. DeForest.
Along the service line, she had three service aces against Sussex Hamilton. Later that week, at the Sun Prairie Tournament, she posted three blocks vs. Edgewood.
Defensively, Westenberg had six digs against Arrowhead and five-dig performances in wins over Hamilton and Muskego.
Honorable Mention: Ashley Stas, senior, middle hitter
Stas has 57 kills and is also hitting .261. More importantly, she has 40 blocks, including six vs. Milton. At 6-0, Stas provides Watertown with size in the middle.
