Tuesday, September 6th there was a Wisconsin Valley Conference Showdown between Stevens Point (SPASH) and Wausau West. Fans got their money’s worth at this match-up. West took the first 2 sets before SPASH battled back to take the final 3. (23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 15-4). Let’s take a look at some of the top available prospects from this match.

[player_tooltip player_id="33084" first="Skylar" last="Rickstad"] – 2019 – 5’0 – Libero – Wausau West

Rickstad is an aggressive defender that defends 70% of the back court. She follows the ball all the way, is always talking, and always moving. Rickstad holds her platform, keeps the ball in play, takes care of the corners with fast lateral movement, and backs up her wing defenders. She is also good in serve receive and can attack when needed as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="80733" first="Robyn" last="Kirsch"] – 2021 – 5’6 – Outside Hitter – Wausau West

Kirsch is a crazy smart hitter that knows how to work around the block, and she is only in her sophomore season! She has a strong serve and is so effective hitting from either pin. Kirsch has hang time, can power it through the block or use the block. She has such smart placement and hits a nice cross body line shot. She may be undersized but is very effective.

[player_tooltip player_id="33082" first="Gabby" last="Johnson"] – 2019 – 5’7 – Middle Blocker – SPASH

Johnson is an undersized middle, but she plays SO much bigger because she elevates, has a great reach, high contact point, and pounds the ball. She is a smart tipper, has a super fast arm swing, and runs a scary good 3-1. Johnson can also be found chasing down a shanked dig or pass out of bounds because she simply does not give up on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id="80182" first="Maddy" last="Dokken"] – 2020 – 5’10 – Middle Blocker – SPASH

Dokken typically plays as an outside and is still adjusting a bit to the middle, but she gets the job done! She finds a way through the block and finds the corners. Dokken also protects the net really well, putting up a nice block and winning in a joust.

[player_tooltip player_id="33071" first="Paige" last="Brandenburg"] – 2019 – 5’9 – Outside Hitter – Wausau West

Brandenburg can power through the block, use the block, and she can also hit high over the block, and finds the opening in the middle back. She is a strong server who puts pressure on the opponent. Brandenburg also sets up a nice block and is ready to defend the net.

Hannah Meyer – 2019 – 5’10 – Right Side – SPASH

Meyer sets and puts up a huge block. She places a nice roll shot over the block, hits a great line shot, finds the deep cross corner, and can cut it from the outside out of serve receive. Meyer is really good in her serve receive role and made some clutch plays in this match as a great outlet.

Tess Hauer – 2019 – 5’11 – Middle Blocker – Wausau West

This was my first time seeing Hauer in action, and she did not disappoint. Hauer does a great job tipping the 4 corner, hitting the 1 corner, and runs a nice slide. She also does a great job protecting her net and puts up a big block.
