This fall, we will spend Wednesdays taking a look back at some of the most important happenings from the night before in high school volleyball.

Here are five big takeaways from Tuesday, Sept. 4.

#1 - How about that comeback by Lincoln North Star over Lincoln East?

I got my start in journalism nearly 30 years ago, and I have to say that I'm not sure I've ever seen a high school contest absolutely turn on a dime like the volleyball match between Lincoln North Star and Lincoln East last night as the Gators rallied for a 11-25, 7-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-9 win over the Spartans.

Now, nobody is saying Lincoln East is one of the best teams in the state, but the Spartans certainly have the talent to be a top 10 team in Class A and have played some pretty impressive matches this year - including having Western Christian of Iowa on the ropes in the Bellevue West Invite and taking Class A #10 Lincoln Southeast to five sets. East came into the match with a record of 4-4.

Lincoln North Star, on the other hand, has struggled mightily and came in to last night with a record 1-6 with its only win being over Lincoln High 2-1 as part of triangular in which the Gators also got swept by Omaha Central. So, a win didn't seem likely to being with for North Star and then when you factor in the way East dominated the first two sets, I've got to think there wasn't a soul in the gym that thought the Gators would walk away with a win. Except, apparently, those on the North Star bench.

Congrats to coach Jessy Denker and the whole North Star crew on a great and much-needed win.

Freshman Bekka Allick had 15 kills, two blocks and nine digs for North Star while Kinsley Ragland have seven kills and Ashtyn Olsen had six. Cassandra Corral had a team-high 15 digs for North Star and Hannah Allick had 18 assists while Audrey Scully had 13.

#2 - Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Tuesday night marked the return of Skutt Catholic's Lindsay Krause to the line-up after she helped the youth Team USA squad win gold in Honduras.

"It feels amazing to be back," Krause told the Omaha World-Herald. "I wanted to get back with my team."

Krause didn't play the first set in Skutt's 25-12, 25-16, 25-19 win over Beatrice but entered in the second set and finished with six kills. Lily Heyne led the way for the Skyhawks with 14 kills and three blocks while Shayla McCormick had eight kills, Sydney McDermott had seven and All Gray had 32 assists, one kill and two ace serves.

Mariah Allen led Beatrice with 13 kills.

#3 - West Point-Beemer gets rare win over Wisner-Pilger

Wisner-Pilger has been a volleyball power in Northeast Nebraska for a very, very long time and that's what West Point-Beemer is trying to become. Tuesday night the Cadets not only got a rare win over the Gators for its program, but they were able to get the sweep in a 25-20, 25-22, 25-15 victory.

The win improved West Point-Beemer to 5-3 and dropped Wisner-Pilger to 6-2. The match was in stark contrast to this past weekend when it was Wisner-Pilger that beat West Point-Beemer 2-0 in tournament play. Now, nobody is saying the West Point-Beemer is ready to join the contenders in a loaded Class C-1, but for a program that hasn't been to state since 1979, this is a pretty big moment.

Kendra Paasch led West Point-Beemer with 14 kills while Sidney Swanson had 12 kills and 10 digs and Sierra Kill had 47 assists and 13 digs. Jordan Wegner led Wisner-Pilger with 11 kills and two blocks.

#4 - Superior holds off Doniphan-Trumbull in clash of ranked Class C-2 teams

Class C-2 #2 Superior improved to 3-1 last night and got wins over Kenesaw and Class C-2 #9 Doniphan-Trumbull. The win over the Cardinals took a little more effort as Superior rallied for a 16-25, 25-17, 25-19 victory. Doniphan-Trumbull also defeated Kenesaw and is now 2-2 on the season.

Kalynn Meyer had 17 kills, 17 digs and a block for Superior while Megan Miller had 11 kills and 21 assists.

Logan Poppe had a team-high 13 kills and nine digs for the Cardinals while Katie Wittfong had 12 kills and 10 digs.

#5 - Archbishop Bergan handles its business as the top-ranked team in Class D-1

Archbishop Bergan replaced Johnson-Brock as the top-ranked team in Class D-1 this week and the Knights handled their business in their first match as the top-ranked team with a 25-8, 25-13, 25-15 win over Class C-1 Arlington.

Don't let the D-1 label fool you on Bergan, the Knights are the real deal and have swept all eight of their opponents this year. Bergan would be a very strong title contender in Class C-2 and a state tournament-caliber team in Class C-1. Bergan is legit. Circle the date of Sept. 18 on your calendars when the Knights travel to Bishop Neumann for a triangular with the Cavaliers and Lincoln Lutheran. That's gonna be some big-girl volleyball that night.

Lexie Langley led Bergan over Arlington with 15 kills and five aces while Allie DeGroff had 13 kills and 10 digs. Allison Dieckmann had 37 assists.
