This fall, we will spend Wednesdays taking a look back at some of the most important happenings from the night before in high school volleyball.

Here are five big takeaways from Tuesday, Oct. 16.

#1 - Kearney keeps rolling with 3-1 win over Lincoln Southwest

Don't look now, but here comes Kearney as the Bearcats are making a late-season surge in Class A. With its 25-15, 25-16, 14-25, 30-28 win over Lincoln Southwest last night, Kearney improved to 18-12 on the season. It also has the Bearcats in the #10 spot in the NSAA wild card point standings as the Bearcats have won four of their last five.

With a winnable match against Columbus to end the regular season and the Heartland Conference tournament on deck next week, Kearney should be a lock to win 20 matches this season, which would give the Bearcats their fist consecutive 20-win seasons in the rally-scoring era. Kearney went 23-12 last year in a season in which it lost 3-1 to Lincoln Pius X in the district finals. Kearney hasn't been to state since 1984 and hasn't won a match at state since 1982.

#4 - Last undefeated team left in state goes down
