AQUINAS AT HOLMEN – Tuesday, October 2nd
Holmen is on the heels of Aquinas for the lead in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Holmen is 7-1 with a tough 5-set loss being the only blemish to their conference record. They are 24-2 on the season and looking for a post season run in a very tough division 1 field. Aquinas is 8-0 in conference and 23-2 overall. The Blugolds are also currently Prep Dig Ranked #2 in D3.
Holmen’s strength is in their offense and ability to score behind the big swing of Mckenzie Winker (2019 – Committed to Viterbo). Winker averages almost 6 kills per set and also poses a scoring threat from the service line with 46 aces so far this season. Aquinas’ offensive strength lies in their setter, Taylor Theusch (2020 – 5’7 – Setter). Theusch runs a 5-1 and effectively moves the ball around to her attackers.
The Blugold’s real strength comes in their defense. Their front line is led by Courtney Becker (2020 – 6’0 – Middle Blocker), who averages almost 3 blocks per match. If a hit gets past Becker, Megan Scheidt (2019 – 5’4 – Libero) runs the backcourt. Scheidt averages almost 6 digs a set and has a total of 374 digs so far.
SHEBOYGAN NORTH AT MANITOWOC LINCOLN – Tuesday, October 2nd
Just when I think I can’t find a better match! Sheboygan North (SN) and Manitowoc Lincoln (ML) are both 24-12. On September 22nd ML beat SN 2-1 at the Sprawl Qualifier. SN is currently tied for first in the Fox River Classic Conference with Ashwaubenon, as both teams are undefeated in conference play. ML’s only conference loss came from Bay Port in a 5-set match on September 13th.
SN has the ultimate defensive threat in Dru Kuck Dru Kuck 5'8" | DS/L Sheboygan North | 2019 State WI (2019 – Committed to Wisconsin – Prep Dig Ranked #2). Kuck is closing in on 2,000 career digs, and if she continues to average almost 7 digs per set, she may just hit that marker in this match! On the offensive side, SN is powered by Lizzie Binder Lizzie Binder 6'2" | OH Sheboygan North | 2021 State WI (2021 – 6’3 – Pin Hitter – Prep Dig Ranked #2). Binder averages almost 4 kills per set and has 330 kills so far in her sophomore season. ML has the fire power of Katie DiRaimondo Katie DiRaimondo 6'0" | OH Manitowoc Lincoln | 2020 State WI (2020 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Prep Dig Ranked #31). MIDDLETON AT JANESVILLE CRAIG – Tuesday, October 2nd
These two teams are in a tough conference with Sun Prairie and Verona, but they are managing to fight for spots near the top. Craig has the offensive advantage with Amanda Carlson (2019) and Taylor Salmon (2019 – Setter). Salmon runs a 5-1 for the Cougars, and her go-to is Carlson. With Carlson averaging over 4 kills per set, Salmon has a total of 905 assists so far. Carlson leads with 371 kills, while Salmon leads with 66 aces.
