It takes guts and a hard head to lead an offense, and it’s typically a job for an upperclassman, but there are some younger setters that thrive. We were able to see some of these players in action at our Prep Dig Top 250 Expo. College coaches, looking for key setter? Look no further!
Josie HalbeibJosie Halbeib – 6’2 – Sun Prairie (40-9) – Capital Volleyball Academy 16 National
Halbeib is currently ranked #10 in the Prep Dig 2021 Rankings, and it is no surprise if you’ve seen her play. She moves very athletically, is a huge block, lethal attack (lefty!), and has nice hands. Halbeib ran a 6-2 this fall with Mia Lubahn (2019 – 5’8 – Setter). She led her team with 679 assists while also contributing 179 kills, 157 digs, 92 blocks, and 45 aces. Her main weapons are KJ McNabb KJ McNabb 5'9" | OH Sun Prairie | 2020 State WI (2020 – Committed to Loyola) and Payton Addink Payton Addink 6'0" | OH Sun Prairie | 2021 State WI (2021 – 6′ – Outside Hitter). Halbeib is arguably the top 2021 available setter and currently ranked #10 in the 2021 Prep Dig Rankings.
Kelly Page Kelly Page 5'5" | S Merrill | 2021 State WI – 5’5 – Merrill (33-11) – Wisconsin Ice 16 Purple
Page is an aggressive competitor. She plays gritty defense, fights for the tight pass, and takes a fast swing. She led the Blue Jays in assists while running a 6-2 with Elizabeth Hartson Elizabeth Hartson 5'9" | DS/L Merrill | 2020 State WI (2020 – 5’9) this past fall. Page was just spotted on our radar at the time of the last rankings, but her stock is rising each time she steps on the court.
Maggie Craker Maggie Craker 5'8" | S McDonell Central | 2021 State WI – 5’9 – McDonnell Central (24-18) – Eau Claire Air 18-1
Craker will be playing up 2 age levels this winter with an 18s team, but that isn’t really anything new since Cramer already has 2 varsity seasons under her belt.. She ran a 5-1 for the Macks and her go-tos were Amber Thaler (2021 – 5’8 – Outside Hitter), Carly Jenson (2019 – 5’8 – Outside Hitter), and Rachel Smiskey (2020 – 6’0 – Middle Blocker). Craker also poses a scoring threat from the service line, contributing 52 aces. She is currently ranked #20 in the 2021 Prep Dig Rankings.
Morgan Yenter Morgan Yenter 5'11" | S Oshkosh West | 2021 State WI – 6’0 – Oshkosh West (22-20) – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold
Yenter just finished her 2nd season on varsity, and this season she had 4 big sophomore swings as her targets. They may not have an impressive record this season, but watch out as they gain more experience and confidence on the varsity scene. Yenter plays at a high level, as well as having a nice high contact and release point. She is a smooth distributor and lethal attacker. Yenter is currently ranked #26 in the 2021 Prep Dig Rankings.

Samuels was barely on our radar before, but after a trip to state and making a top team in her area, her stock is definitely rising.
McKenna Scharnek – 5’8 – Waukesha West (35-11) – Milwaukee Sting 16 Black
Scharnek took on a bigger role for the Wolverines this season. She split setting duties in order to utilize and learn from senior Darragh Dixon Darragh Dixon 5'10" | S Waukesha West | 2019 State WI (5’11 – Setter/Right Side). Scharnek is a smooth operator, moves well, and anticipates where the pass or dig is going. She does a great job of spreading the distribution to keep the opponent on their toes. Scharnek is currently ranked #31 in the 2021 Prep Dig Rankings.
