Libero: jersey’s number must be in clear contrast to the jersey color
Last year, officials and directors tightened up on the specifics of a contrasting jersey for the libero. This year, they are making sure not only is the color of the jersey different, but the number on the jersey must be contrasting with the jersey color. The best way to ensure your club is meeting requirements is imagine a “color-blind” official. That offical should be able to see clear contrasts.
Coaches: a single assistant coach may stand to give instructions to players
Before only the head coach could stand and instruct in matches; now, with bigger coaching staffs for many teams, this rule allows one assistant to stand along with the head coach. Of course they can not be closer than six feet and from the sideline to the bench.
Injury: if an injury occurs the referee stops play immediately
If a player gets hurt, the referee will stop the game instantly. They will allow coaches/medical assistance to come onto the court. If the player can’t continue, after 30 second, the player is to be replaced. Taking their place can be a libero, legal sub or exception sub. Coaches will not be charged a time out. A nice improvement to ensure safe play.
Scoring: 1-only the scorekeeper and 1st referee must sign score-sheet
2-rotation error/fault must be identified or only the current rally point will be awarded
Coaches will no longer be required to provide their signature at the conclusion of a match.
Also, if a position/rotation fault occurs and it can not be determined exactly when/where the fault occurred, only the current rally point will be given to the opposing team. This is a welcome change.
