New Look In Northeast Wisconsin
One shakeup over the past year was the merger of Wisconsin Volleyball Academy and Green Bay Power which both had multiple satellites under their name have now become One Wisconsin. No more Green Bay Power, no more WVA. That will bring a different look to the Badger Region and also the Green Bay/Fox Valley area with athletes changing clubs whether it may be due to proximity or a fresh change for the season.
18s Club Changes
FC Elite 18 Navy will have a slightly new look this year after having one of the top teams in this class the past couple of years. Middle Blocker, Kasey Bell of Sheboygan North is going to be heading to college at semester before she is joined by Addie Barnes and Kayla Kraus of Neenah at Loyola, but there are some big additions to this team to note. Brooke Mosher, who has been playing for Milwaukee Sting and set for 15 Gold last year will be jumping up a couple levels and set this 18s team, she has committed to play for Illinois. Maddie Koch of Ashwaubenon and Purdue commit will be joining FC Elite as well to make them extremely deep on the pin. FC Elite has a roster full of Division 1 commits. Caroline Dragani of Catholic Memorial and Portland State commit who had been playing with FC Elite the past two years will be playing on Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold who also picked up Arianna Miller of Kettle Moraine Lutheran. The former Wisconsin Premier player will be playing next year at UW-Milwaukee. Anna Nerad of Waukesha West will be playing for Motion MVP 18 Blue after being on Sting 17 Black last year. A club to keep an eye on would be Epic in the Racine area who will have the likes of Morgan Dunn, Ryan Ferch, and Amanda Yackley.
17s Club Changes
The Class of 2020 in Wisconsin is incredibly deep with about four to five clubs that will be highly competitive throughout the season. Sting 17 Gold picked up All State outside hitter, Julia Treichel from Wisconsin Lutheran who was previously on Motion MVP as well as Kelsey Carrington of Racine St. Catherines who was out last year with an injury. FC Elite will have a bit of a different look as well by picking up some athletes from WVA. WVA athletes are Kalli Mau of Kimberly, Emma Oelhafen of Xavier, and Courtney Pearson of Kimberly, however Pearson recently suffered an injury at the beginning of December. What about those River Falls athletes? There is a very strong pipeline from River Falls to Kokoro out of St. Paul, MN, but Halle Olson will be playing for the MN Select 17-1 team and Anna Wolf who would be a 16s player is going to be playing for the MN Select 18-1 team. MVP Motion, Wisconsin Juniors, and Capital have all returned their strong core players from years past in the Class of 2020. These teams will be extremely competitive in the newly formed Badger Region Power League where they will compete in 18 Elite. Ella Foti of Edgewood and Capital 17 Adidas should be back after injury in 2018, she has given her verbal to play at Marquette from the Class of 2021.
16s Club Changes
When one or two athletes change, it always seems to create the domino effect that takes place among a few clubs, but in the Class of 2021 this has been felt across the state. With Mosher heading up to FC Elite in Appleton to play for the 18s that has left an opening at Sting Gold for a setter which was picked up by up and coming 2021 prospect in Oshkosh West setter Morgan Yenter who was an All FVA left handed setter and attacker. Marquette recruit, Sam Naber, who has been one of the top liberos in her class will be playing her club season at Sky High which brings up Anna Holland, a Seton Hall recruit and Waukesha West prep to likely be the libero for Sting 16 Gold. Holland’s high school teammate Alexis Boling, a high powered middle blocker will be on 16 Gold as well after player her club ball at Midwest Penguins. Kayla Lewinksi, Elle Truckenbrod, Sammie Seib, Randi Welhoefer, Kaitlyn Bingham, Elsa Sheperd, and Sammie Seib will be some noteworthy athletes to be joining Sting as well. In the Green Bay/Fox Valley area, there will be some new looks with WVA merging with Green Bay Power to form One Wisconsin. Hattie Bray and Natalie Johanknecht who were the go to middle blockers for the Class of 2021 will be playing for FC Elite where Johanknecht may see some time on the pin along with Jaclyn Wise of NEW Lutheran out of Green Bay, a very physical attacker.
As for 15s, since we typically don’t cover the 14s division we will wait this category out. We make it a priority to see a lot of 15s competition in the early winter to get to know new players and clubs for the season.
