The older athletes played their half of the tournament already, now the 12’s and 14’s will get their turn. In the 14’s Gold there are 8 pools and 5 in 14 Silver. It’s likely many clubs had to cancel practices this week due to frigid temperatures, and that can only mean one thing: these young athletes are going to be eager to get on the court.
This age group can not be overlooked, because anything is possible: a top seeded team can get beat by the last ranked team in pool play, there are sure to be several ties before heading into tournament play, and mistakes are crucial and inevitable. It’s exciting as the momentum constantly changes and coaches work to help these athletes improve with each point. Here are the match-ups we can’t wait to see:
Pool B: MVA 14 vs CIA 13 Black
This is sure to be a strong match-up. MVA is known for their strong defense and great setters. Their coaches have developed a strong program for the Minnesota Volleyball Academy. Likewise, this CIA team is seeded 2nd in their pool and have earned the right to compete against the older players.
Pool F: Iowa Elite 14 Royal vs Wisconsin Ice 14 Purple
These out of state teams will travel despite the cold to take on teams they haven’t seen before. Both of these teams have developed strong programs in their own states.
Anticipated match-ups: Teams will need to do well in their pool to have a chance at advancing to the championships. These are the match-ups we’d love to see.
V-Hawk Extreme Adidas vs SMV 14-1
Both teams are tough servers with a few big hitters and a well-rounded defense. This could be an early match in tournament play that eliminates one of the top teams.
Iowa Heart 14 red vs KVBC
Which is better: offense or defense? Iowa Heart will bring the fast offense but Kasson’s defense skills ar some of the best in the state.
Goodluck to all the young players.
