Some of these athletes may be a bit under the radar with the Class of 2021 making huge gains from their 15s to 16s year while others are hoping to wrap up their recruiting process. Here are some sleepers that will be looking to make an impact with the start of the season underway!
Tatum Catalano of Milwaukee Sting and Germantown High SchoolTatum Catalano – Milwaukee Sting 16 Black – Outside Hitter/Middle – Germantown
Class of 2021
Explosive and versatile. Catalano can play any front row position, and is now really developing her all around game into a six rotation outside hitter. A ton of quickness, very dynamic, and a huge upside to keep track of. This year, the 5’11 Sophomore will be playing for Sting 16 Black and will be a real go to player scoring a lot of points. Will be fun to see what she can do in the backrow as well defensively and as an attacker.
Ashley East – Capital 18 Adidas – Right Side – McFarland
Class of 2019
Best kept secret out of Madison. The powerful lefty from McFarland can put up a solid block, score a will, and play in the backrow. A definite steal at the next level, East also plays basketball and is a solid all around athlete. She will be making an impact as early as next weekend when Capital heads to Omaha to kick off the 2019 season.
Truckenbrod of Sting 16 WhiteElle Truckenbrod – Milwaukee Sting 16 White – Outside Hitter – Kettle Moraine Lutheran
Class of 2021
Truckenbrod is a three sport athlete who was a major part of KML’s state runner up finish this fall with a breakout season. She will be playing for Sting 16 White as a six rotation outside hitter. With the progress she has made in the past year it will be fun to see her progression into becoming the elite, go to player for KML entering her Junior. But first, she has more success to be had in basketball and club volleyball this winter and spring.
Brianna Geurts of FC Elite 16 Navy
Brianna Geurts – FC Elite 16 Navy – Middle Blocker/Pin – De Pere
Class of 2021
FC Elite 16 Navy is going to be a force to be reckon with this year. Geurts is quietly effective as she can hit out of the middle or the pin. A strong and dynamic player, Geurts provides depth and will one to keep tabs on this season and throughout her career progresses
Jordan Berglin – Midwest Penguins 16 Black – Outside Hitter – Pewaukee
Class of 2021
Berglin is bound to breakout this season. At the Prep Dig Top 250 Expo she was able to show off her explosive leaping ability and high contact with a thunderous swing. She will be a huge point scorer from the outside or even the middle for Midwest Penguins this season. As her all around game grows, so will her projected level of play at the collegiate game.
Amber Bischel – Wisconsin Juniors 17-1 – Libero – Germantown (Pictured in Title Photo. Photo Cred: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
Class of 2020
Super gritty, Bischel has plenty of toughness and ball control to go with it to make her a solid defensive player for Wisconsin Juniors 17-1 who returns much of their 16s team from last year who competed at some major open level tournaments. Bischel preps at Germantown and will be a key cog to getting the offense going for Juniors with the likes of Karlee Lois at setter and Karina Leber out of the middle who will be heading to Colorado State.
Kayla Lewinski – Milwaukee Sting 16 Black – Right Side/Pin – Sussex Hamilton
Class of 2021
First time I saw Lewinski play was at the Winter Classic in 2018 when she dove into the bench and got her foot stuck in a chair. I think she had the bruise to prove it. A natural on the right side with a big swing and solid block, Lewinski has the intangibles to develop into a really solid college prospect (which she already is). This will be a huge offseason for Sussex Hamilton as they will be returning a large number of big time players who will have lofty goals for the 2019 high school season.
Martina McGrath of Sting and Hartford Union High SchoolMartina McGrath – Milwaukee Sting 16 White – Middle Blocker/Right Side – Hartford Union
Class of 2021
At 6’3, McGrath has improved immensely since the start of her 15s year. Her skill development has raised her game and has allowed her to become more dynamic. She commands the front row as a middle blocker and has a huge upside that with her improvement the past couple years as a sign to come, McGrath is a name to follow along with the rest of a young crew of Hartford Union athletes!
Sierra Lee – Sky High (IL) – Defensive Specialist – Westosha Central
Class of 2019
New club, but same dynamic player. Sierra Lee is the do it all type of player who can swing on the outside, set, and is a really solid defender. At the college level she would be an absolute steal who can steal who can just make the gym better and is so versatile with her skill set that she will find a way on the court.
Maggie Allaman – Capital Adidas 16 – Middle Blocker/Pin – Sun Prairie
Class of 2021
Allaman was highly effective for the Cardinals this fall, part of a talented Sophomore class for Sun Prairie who made their way to the state tournament. A workhorse out of the middle, Allaman can close the block and transition hard to put herself into position to swing offensively. The Capital Adidas 16’s team will be one to keep an eye on to sneak up on the field this winter.
Emily Wendt – Motion MVP 17 Blue – Setter – East Troy
Class of 2020
Fresh off a state title for East Troy, Wendt just knows how to get it done. Very dynamic, savvy, and just a natural IQ for the game she will get the wheels turning for MVP this season with Sarah Mattes in the middle and a solid first contact from Tahya Pozorski. There are certain intangibles for setters that are hard to measure and Wendt definitely fits into that category of having the “It” factor.

Megan Piton – One Wisconsin 17-1 – Libero – Appleton North – Class of 2020
