Continue ReadingWisconsin teams came home with quite a bit of hardware after this past weekend. Three teams won their respective divisions and two others made it to the championship. The 15 Premier division was an all Badger championship with Motion 15 Blue going head to head with Milwaukee Sting 15 Black. Motion came home with the championship but it was a battle of a match! Here are the Badger Region teams that rocked the Nike President’s Day Tournament!
Motion Volleyball 15 Blue – 1st Place 15 Premier Division
This talented Motion team only dropped two sets across this three-day tournament. They beat some big names to get to the championship including some fellow Badger Region teams including Capital 15 Adidas in their gold medal pool and Sting 15 Black in the final.
Libero Tori Campanelli was instrumental in the team’s success, providing solid serve receive and defense all weekend long. Setters Rebecca Siedenburg (Prep Dig Rank #41) and Kara Nixdorf were great leaders on the court and provided both consistency and quick, efficient sets in every match. Each hitter brought something unique to the team from power to consistency to leadership! The team excelled on blocking and was able to put balls down and minimize their errors. The rest of the players on this championship team are: Grace Grocholski, Madeline Barton (Prep Dig Rank #43) and Sophie McCormack (Prep Dig Rank #44) (Outside Hitters); Grace Miclot, Makenzie Fish, and Dorothy Scruggs (Middle Hitters); Emma Reno (Right Side); and Lauren Hill (Defensive Specialist). Great work to the entire team over the course of this three-day tournament!
Milwaukee Sting 16 White – 1st Place 16 Premier Division
Originally From Sting Social MediaI have commented before on the sheer depth of talent at this 16’s level and this just proves that theory. Libero Mackenzie Leach (Prep Dig Rank #54) was an energizer on the court. She is scrappy and has a beast serve. Setter Janelle Stuempfig (Prep Dig Rank #37) was impressive in her solid form and ability to move the ball well while being hard to read. Martina McGrath (Prep Dig Rank #65) was impactful on the right side, swinging great shots with power behind them. Outside Sammie Seib (Prep Dig Rank #30) is consistent and fun to watch. Fellow outside Elle Truckenbrod (Prep Dig Rank #23) has an arsenal of shots which she utilizes well. The rest of the team includes: Aspen Jankowski, Lindsay Krznarich (Prep Dig Rank #69), Monica LaFleur (Prep Dig Rank #46), Rachel Wessel (Prep Dig Rank #94), Sydnie Stadler (Prep Dig Rank #87), and Savanna Carleton (Prep Dig Rank #104).
Capital 17 Navy – 1st Place 17 Club Division
This Capital team is dynamic and highly competitive. Setters Lizzy Fortune (Prep Dig Rank #80) and Sam Miller (Prep Dig Rank #120) were leaders and energizers through this long weekend in Saint Louis. Libero Ainsley Apel (Prep Dig Rank #59) is fast and controlled providing consistency in the back row. Laura Gillaspie (Prep Dig Rank #116) is a powerhouse middle who closes blocks well and is fast on offense. Cassidy Spies (Prep Dig Rank #102) excels in both the front and back row, always making an impact when she is on the court. The remainder of this championship team includes Erica Collin (Prep Dig Rank #126), Sam Gray (Prep Dig Rank #121), Amanda Miller (Prep Dig Rank #169), Summer Salettel (Prep Dig Rank #166), Rylie Steffes (Prep Dig Rank #103), and Megan Touchett (Prep Dig Rank #63).
Milwaukee Sting 15 Black – 2nd Place 15 Premier Division
Originally from Sting Social MediaI love watching this Sting 15 Black team play. They are fast, scrappy, and always working to better the ball. Each one of them clearly leaves everything they have on the court. Six rotation player Katie Gund (Prep Dig Rank #38) is a setter in the back row and an impactful lefty right side in the front row. She gets a touch on every ball and is a clear leader on the team. Grace Schneider has a huge vertical and solid power. Brooke Porter (Prep Dig Rank #35) has a powerful serve and is extremely fast. Libero Aerene Lim is a constant force in the back row and is extremely talented on serve receive. Defensive specialist Sophie Illman is scrappy and never lets the ball touch the ground without getting a hand on it. The rest of the players on this second place team also deserve a shout out: Tatum Baldwin (Setter); Sahej Grewal and Katie Breier (Middles); Morgan Klein (Prep Dig Rank #27) and Paige Platz (Outside Hitters).
Motion 17 Blue – 2nd Place 17 Premier Division
Nike Prez Day Tournament – 2nd Place – Photo Originally From Motion Social MediaI had the opportunity to see the semi-final matchup between Motion and Sting 17 white, which was truly an amazing match. Motion played solid the entire weekend with Tahya Pozorski (Prep Dig Rank #17) leading the pack in the back row. She was unstoppable on both serve receive and defense. Setter Emily Wendt (Prep Dig Rank #42) is an energizer on the court. She is hard to read as a setter and makes smart decisions. Setter and right side Nicole Pozorski (Prep Dig Rank #34) is a dynamic athlete who runs an extremely fast offense and has a powerful swing as well. Outside hitter Holly Reinke (Prep Dig Rank #58) impressed me with her killer line shot and overall power in the front row. Riley Kindt (Prep Dig Rank #47), Nikki Censki (Prep Dig Rank #54), and Sarah Mattes (Prep Dig Rank #33) were powerhouses in the middle and on the right side. The rest of the team includes Jessica Bagley (Prep Dig Rank #127), Sydney Burris (Prep Dig Rank #106), Nadia Reese (Prep Dig Rank #157), and Emily Larson (Prep Dig Rank #79).
Milwaukee Sting 17 White – 2nd Place 17 Premier Division
As I said above, the semi-final match between Motion and this powerhouse sting team was awesome. Outside hitter Maya Momcilovic made a huge impact for her team as a 6 rotation player. She had some massive, momentum-changing kills on the outside during the second set to push the match to three. Setter Addison Preston (Prep Dig Rank #153) also played all six rotations. Her massive vertical was an asset while blocking and her speed while setting. Madelyn Rettler (Prep Dig Rank #135) was instrumental throughout the weekend as a pin hitter for Sting. The remainder of the team includes: Karli Johnson (Prep Dig Rank #133), Morgan McCormack (Prep Dig Rank #85), Emma Braun (Prep Dig Rank #76), Ava Rebarchik (Prep Dig Rank #67), Kyah Golding (Prep Dig Rank #87), and Josie Salzman (Prep Dig #51).
