Wisconsin has a talented senior class ready to make their mark at the next level and hopefully senioritis isn’t running rampant among them. Here’s a look at which college programs will benefit the most in the coming years from the state of Wisconsin.
Creighton (Nebraska) – The BlueJays have been doing some serious recruiting work in the state of Wisconsin recently. They currently have zero Wisconsinites on their 2018 roster, but that will soon change. Their 2019 recruiting class will include Kianna Schmitt (6’3 – Middle Blocker – Waunakee – Capital 18 Adidas – Prep Dig Ranked #1) and Makenna Krause (5’6 – Libero – Hortonville – One Wisconsin 18-1 – Prep Dig Ranked #45). Creighton didn’t stop there. They wanted even more of Wisconsin and landed Kiara Reinhardt (6’3 – Middle Blocker – Cedarburg – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold – Prep Dig Ranked #2) from the 2020 class. I’m very curious to see who they might pick up next.
Hannah Vanden BergMarquette – Marquette consistently snatches up a few of Wisconsin’s best each year. After bringing in Jenna Rosenthal (6’6 – Middle Blocker – Fond du Lac) in 2014, the Golden Eagles signed a stellar 2016 class, including Madeline Mosher (Outside Hitter – Waterloo), Allie Barber (6’5 – Outside Hitter – Cedarburg), and Sandy Mohr (6’4 – Middle Blocker – Muskego). They signed a single recruit in 2017 with just Hope Werch (6’1 – Outside Hitter – Neenah) before landing a pair of top players from the 2018 class, including Katie Schoessow (5’6 – Defensive Specialist – Mukwonago) and Claire Mosher (5’10 – Setter – Waterloo). They certainly haven’t slowed down on the trend of picking up some of Wisconsin’s best by signing 2019 recruit Hannah Vanden Berg (6’2 – Outside Hitter – Little Chute – FC Elite 18 Navy – Prep Dig Ranked #2). Marquette didn’t stop there and has signed 2021 recruits Samantha Naber (5’7 – Libero – Burlington – Sky High – Prep Dig Ranked #7) and Ella Foti (6’0 – Setter – Madison Edgewood – Capital 17 Adidas – Prep Dig Ranked #8).
Briana ScuricNorthern Illinois – The Huskies aren’t full of Wisconsin talent by any means, but the two that were on their 2018 roster were key pieces to their roster. Most recently they’ve signed Briana Scuric (5’10 – Outside Hitter – Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold) for their 2019 class. Scuric had a solid four-year career for East Troy, earning a state championship in her senior season. Scuric raised her level of play throughout her four years and became one of the best passers, hardest swings, and lethal servers for East Troy in 2018. The Huskies will be graduating Wisconsin native Meg Wolowicz (6’4 – Middle Blocker – Manitowoc Lutheran), but they do have one Wisconsinite on their current roster in libero, Miranda Karlen (5’6 – Evansville). With the success native Wisconsin talent has been having at NIU maybe we will be seeing more heading to DeKalb.
Ari MillerUniversity of Wisconsin – Milwaukee – Like Marquette, Milwaukee has a fair share of top players from the state, but it’s re-developing their pipeline and picking up some top recruits in the process. Prep Dig Ranked #7 Arianna Miller (2019 – 6’1 – Middle Blocker – Kettle Moraine Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold) will be joining the Panthers in the fall after a stellar season with KML where she led her squad to the Division 2 State Championship match. Miller isn’t the only one signed with Milwaukee for the class of 2019. She will start her freshman year along with Matison Jakscht (5’8 – Defensive Specialist – East Troy – Capital 18 Adidas – Prep Dig Ranked #91) and Morgan Thiel (5’7 – Defensive Specialist – Lourdes – One Wisconsin 18 National – Prep Dig Ranked #120). This trio will join 10 Wisconsin natives, Louise Kiekhofer (5’9 – Outside Hitter – Brookfield East),Lexie Uselding (5’8 – Defensive Specialist/Outside Hitter – West Bend East), Kylie Wilks (5’8 – Outside Hitter – Union Grove), Jenna Miller (5’10 – Middle Blocker/Right Side Hitter – Appleton North), Makenzie Mroczenski (6’2 – Middle Blocker – New Berlin Eisenhower), Kaitlynn Mongan (5’5 – Defensive Specialist – Germantown), Lauren Spaulding (5’9 – Outside Hitter – Sheboygan North), Jess Grabowski (5’4 – Defensive Specialist – Greendale), Rylie Vaughn (5’9 – Setter – Newman Catholic), and Abby Koenen (6’0 – Pin Hitter – Burlington). If those 13 reasons aren’t enough to rally behind the Panthers and their all-star Wisconsin cast, then you can look ahead because Milwaukee already has 2020 commitments from setter, Kaley Blake (5’8 – Burlington – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold – Prep Dig Ranked #4), Marissa Klemann (6’2 – Middle Blocker – La Crosse Logan – Vhawk Xtreme 18 Adidas – Prep Dig Ranked #12), and Sarah Schrader (5’8 – Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist – Hamilton – Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold – Prep Dig Ranked #20).
