While there will be a lot of committed players to watch, there are even more available athletes looking for their home after high school. Here are some of Prep Dig’s top ranked available 2020 athletes playing this weekend!
2020s
#10 Jacqueline Smith – 5’11 – Outside Hitter – Northland Pines – Wisconsin Ice 18 National – Prep Dig Ranked #21
Smith can play anywhere in the front row and score points effectively. She can also play anywhere in the back row and earn just as many points. Smith is joined on pins for Ice by future Phoenix, Kayla Lass (2019 – Committed To UW-Green Bay.
Emily Alan#9 Emily Alan – 6’0 – Middle Blocker – Burlington – Wisconsin Juniors 17-1’s – Prep Dig Ranked #22
At Burlington, Alan has been a part of two state tournament championships and knows what it takes to win. With decent first contact, Juniors can run a quick middle, and Alan is extremely good at pounding the 5 corner. Her volleyball IQ and great vision of the court helps her to be very effective in transition.
#17 Amber Bischel – 5’7 – Libero – Germantown – Wisconsin Juniors 17-1’s – Prep Dig Ranked #23
Bischel had a solid season with Germantown this fall. Her serving takes opponents out of system, and in 3 seasons, she has over 120 aces. Bischel is part of a talented Juniors squad that could make some upsets this weekend.
#22 Katherine Walch – 5’6 – Libero – Green Bay Notre Dame – FC Elite 17 Navy – Prep Dig Ranked #24
Walch can cover a lot of court, which she showed by leading Notre Dame’s back court this fall. Now she is running the defense as libero for FC Elite 17 Navy. Walch is getting the opportunity to prove she can hold her own against some of the best hitters in the region and the nation.
#10 Taylor Vanden Berg – 5’11 – Setter/Right Side Hitter – Appleton North – One Wisconsin 18-1 – Prep Dig Ranked #25
Vanden Berg is in her second season as a setter on an 18’s squad. Her height and athleticism give her an advantage to be very physical at the net. Playing up an age level has given Vanden Berg experience competing at a very fast pace.
#44 Katie DiRaimondo – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Manitowoc Lincoln – FC Elite 17 Navy – Prep Dig Ranked #26
DiRaimondo was a big part of the Ship’s offense. She is a solid physical athlete at the net. She has a quick arm swing that is difficult for teams to defend. Playing for FC Elite has made DiRaimondo quite used to challenging competition.
#23 Madelyn Kelley – 6’1 – Middle Blocker – Verona – Capital 17 Adidas – Prep Dig Ranked #31
Kelley is a force along the net where she can play incredibly high and move well laterally to close the block. She gets a lot of touches, and she causes opposing hitters to alter and contemplate their next shot, causing an error, a free ball, or a tip for which her team can take advantage. Offensively, Kelley can hit sharp angles and power through a block from the middle.
Taylor Pagel#6 Taylor Pagel – 6’0 – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter – Wausau East – Wisconsin Ice 18 National – Prep Dig Ranked #50
Pagel has been a huge part of the Wausau East program for a few years now, and they will rely heavily on her in 2019 as they play in a tough Wisconsin Valley Conference. But Pagel isn’t afraid of a challenge. She is currently playing for the Ice 18 National team, so she is accustomed to playing the best in the region. Pagel is unique because she is not only a threat on the pin, but she can put up a strong block as a middle.
#4 Maddy Dokken – 5’10 – Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker – SPASH – Wisconsin Ice 18 National – Prep Dig Ranked #53
Dokken had a breakout fall season, leading SPASH to a deep post season run. She is a little small as a middle, but she can play anywhere in the front row, as well as play all 6 rotations. Dokken’s power has showed a lot of improvement and it couples well with her natural quickness.
