Continue ReadingObviously hitting the ball hard is tough to dig, but for some there is just something different. This list was not created by the input of any liberos or backrow players, but lately, being close to court at some of these tournaments you just see something a little bit different, a certain pop off the ball that makes it tough to bring up a clean pass.
Maddie Koch – FC Elite 18 Navy – Outside Hitter
Committed To Purdue
That ball is heavy. The velocity at which Koch can swing at is ferocious, there is even an element of “effectively wild”. She is tough to read and there are times where there is a spin coming off her hand that makes the ball dance a little bit. Koch was named the 2018 Gatorade Player of the Year in Wisconsin and to think she didn’t start playing club at a national level until her 16s year for Wisconsin Volleyball Academy . She is heading to Purdue where they will definitely take her to the next level of all around skill and continuing to teach her a variety of shots to go with her power.
Kyndra Hansen – Northern Lights 18-1 – Outside Hitter
Committed to Iowa
Watching Hansen play, it’s almost like a simulation of someone being on a box where she can just pinpoint the spot of where she wants to hit. She can just hang, almost never hitting the same spot twice in a row. Whether its a top spin down the line, hard cross, or the split between the block she finds a way to score points and even when the defender is in the right spot, she’s tough to take pace off of and keep the ball in play let alone in system. She will be heading a bit South and be a Hawkeye at the University of Iowa.
Alexis Boling – Milwaukee Sting 16-Gold – Middle Blocker
Uncommitted Class of 2021
Explosive. Boling puts a hurt on the ball with a quick and powerful arm swing. A starting middle for Sting 16 Gold who was in the final eight at the Triple Crown Invite in KC was a major part of their success. In her 15s season she was named to the Great Lakes Power League all tournament team and was a major part in her high school team, Waukesha West to the state tournament. There is just a difference pop when she makes hand contact and just finds a way to make herself available to score.
Mckenna Wucherer – Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold – Outside Hitter
Committed to Minnesota
Wucherer has a similar style to Hansen where she can score a lot of points a variety of ways. As an 8th grader, Wucherer made her verbal commit to Minnesota and will continue to improve her all around game after earning 1st Team All State Honors as a Freshman in Wisconsin’s largest class. A high contact point, the velocity at which the ball is traveling it makes it so tough to not over pass, or pass it into the stands. If there aren’t four hands in front of Wucherer blocking her – forget it.
Elizabeth Juhnke – M1 18-1 – Outside Hitter
Committed To South Dakota
There isn’t a shot that Juhnke doesn’t like, she can hit them all. Juhnke was a standout at Lakeville North and is part of an M1 team that has already locked up a bid for USAV 18 Open. Juhnke can really get on top the ball and uses her whole body to swing which puts a ton of top spin on the ball where its going to spray off the block or off the platform of the athlete trying to dig it. This goes for every position on the court whether it be backrow, the left pin, or coming through the middle as well.
Milla Malik – Capital 17 Adidas – Outside Hitter
Committed to Buffalo
Malik has such a fast arm swing, it’s a whip where she can terminate a split or put so much velocity on it, an open swing guarantees a kill. Her serve has even become deadly when she can jump float to make the ball dance. Teammate KJ McNabb is the perfect duo with Malik on the pin for Capital. Malik has the aggressive arm swing while McNabb can put a ball away by just her vision alone. Watch out for “McMalik” throughout the club season.
Hannah Vanden Berg – FC Elite 18 Navy – Outside Hitter
Committed to Marquette
Vanden Berg had over 700 kills this past high school season, leading her team to a state tournament berth in Wisconsin. Vanden Berg can hit from any position in the front or back row. With her contact point so high it makes it really tough to read where she will hit and at what speed and spin. The has the defense confused and makes it so tough to keep the ball up and in play.
