Continue ReadingWe can never assume every player in a certain age division is in the same graduation class. Sometimes the youngest player is one of the best players on the court and that’s because they wouldn’t be challenged at their age level or they are filling a void in their lineup. To hopefully clear some confusion, here are some top available recruits that have been playing up with an older graduating class.
Bryn Janke – 2024 – 5’8 – Setter – Wisconsin Dells – Wisconsin Ice 15 Purple
Janke is playing 2 years up, but you would NEVER guess she was only 13. She has a high ceiling being very young, fearless, and physical. Janke puts up a big block, can take a hard attack, and cleanly distributes to her hitters. She still has another full year to develop and continue to strengthen her all-around game before she hits high school. She was recently chosen for Badger High Performance camp. This will NOT be the last time you see her name!
Madisen Miller – 2022 – 5’8 – Defensive Specialist – Appleton North – FC Elite 16 Navy
Miller is playing up on the FC Elite team behind a recent Wisconsin commit, Saige Damrow (2023 – Libero). Miller bolsters an already strong Elite defense by making the routine play just as easily as she can make the scrappy save. Miller will fight for a spot on the Lightning varsity roster this season behind Megan Piton (2020 – 5’8 – Libero/Outside Hitter), and her experience this club season will be a huge help.
Natalie RingNatalie Ring – 2022 – 6’0 – Outside Hitter – Madison Edgewood – Capital 16 Adidas
You would never guess Ring is a “youngin” on this Capital team. This squad is full of talent with some great athletes. Ring will definitely be a Division 1/high Division 2 prospect who is a powerful hitter from the outside. Playing up a level with Capital’s top 16 team will definitely help Ring prepare for competing at the next level. I hope their schedule gave her a lot of exposure to college coaches.
Rachel Roberts – 2020 – 6’1 – Setter/Right Side Hitter – DSHA – Motion 18 Blue
Roberts is part of the Motion crew that will be competing at the USAV 18s National Tournament next weekend in Texas. For DSHA, she provided a strong defense against the opposing outside hitters and a strong offensive attack from either pin. In 2018 Roberts tallied over 200 kills right behind seniors Anna Myklebust and Ally Larcheid. DSHA will graduate a strong senior class and will look to Roberts for leadership in 2019. The Dashers will also return outside hitter Jacque Stegmayer (2021 – 5’10 – Motion 16 Blue).
Sydney Lewellin – 2022 – 6’0 – Setter – Lake Mills – Capital 16 Adidas
Lewellin makes quite a partner with Josie Halbeib in the setting position for Capital. Both have height and great hands. Lewellin is also a lefty and does a lot of jump setting already, which really expands her range. It will be interesting to see how she does at the High Performance camp in July! Lake Mills could be utilizing her more as an attacker in the next couple years if they can develop another setter to run a 6-2.
Taylor PagelTaylor Pagel – 2020 – 6’0 – Middle Blocker/Pin Hitter – Wausau East – Wisconsin Ice 18 National
Pagel is a 6’0 hitter playing up on Ice 18 National with plenty of collegiate talent. She spent time in every front row rotation with the likes of Kayla Lass (2019 – Committed To UW-Green Bay) and Jacqueline Smith (2020 – Committed To Northern Michigan). She will have a change of pace in the fall where she will be the go-to for Wausau East.
