Hundreds of teams are descending upon Louisville Kentucky today to compete in the JVA World Challenge which starts tomorrow. The Badger region is no exception. There are teams headed there at every age level and in every division. This is one of the biggest tournaments of the year so let’s break down which teams will be attending. Here is a list of teams attending and notes on the teams I have had the opportunity to see thus far.

18 Club

Crossfire VBC G18 Blaze

Epic 18 Black

Epic puts together some gritty and fast teams and this team is no different. Setter Amanda Yackley (Prep Dig Rank #101) is a smart player who plays all 6 rotations. She knows her hitters well and customizes her sets to their needs. Teah Roszkowiak (Prep Dig Rank #107) is an outside hitter with immense power and a great cross-court shot. Emily Bird is a middle blocker with a lot of speed. Ryan Ferch (Prep Dig Rank #111, Committed to Concordia-Wisconsin) is a libero who is a strong defender and good leader in the back row.

WI Performance 17UA

WI Performance 17UA2

WI Performance 18UA

What I love about this WI performance team is that they are dynamic. They have a lot of grit and can really double down and compete with high-level teams. Keller Frinzi is a dynamic outside who is a strong passer and great in the front row.

18 Open

1W 18-1

This team is the type of team that has a lot of chemistry on the court. They have done well this season and competed at a high level. Setter Olivia Olson (Prep Dig Rank #42, Committed to Central Missouri) is a great leader on the court and is awesome in scramble defense. She has great control and an amazing read of the court. Middle blocker Gabby Murray (Prep Dig Rank #34, Committed to Marist) is extremely impactful and has a strong presence on the court.

Capital 18 Adidas

This is a stacked team that not only has extremely talented individual players but also a lot of chemistry as a team. Abbey Johnson (Prep Dig Rank #127) is a talented setter who moves the ball fast and gives her all every point. Sopheea Mink (Prep Dig Rank #14, Committed to High Point) is an energizer and six-rotation outside hitter who has power and is a huge asset to this team. Kiana Schmitt (Prep Dig Rank #1, Committed to Creighton) is incredibly talented and a go-to hitter on the Capital offense. Ashley East (Prep Dig Rank #50, Committed to Bemidji State)) is a smart right side who does well in scramble plays and knows how to put a ball down both in and out of system. Libero Sarah Malone (Prep Dig Rank #52, Committed to High Point University) has an aggressive serve and makes even the toughest service receptions look easy.

FC Elite 18 Navy

Another truly stacked team. They are led by class of 2021 setter Brooke Mosher (Prep Dig Rank #1, Committed to Illinois) who runs a fast offense. Hannah Vanden Berg (Prep Dig Rank #2, Committed to Marquette) is a massive outside hitter who hits over blocks and powers balls everywhere but where the opponent is standing. Maggie Cartwright (Prep Dig Rank #4, Committed to Arkansas) is an extremely talented athlete who can hit well across the net. Libero Kayla Kraus (Prep Dig Rank #15, Committed to Loyola) defends the backcourt fiercely and rarely lets anything drop. This team should do very well at the tournament.

18 Premier

1W 18 Elite

1W 18 National

This team is very strong defensively but also has a consistent and competitive offense. Madyson Pearson is tall and has great hands. She works hard to get to every ball. Morgan Thiel (Prep Dig Rank #120, Committed to UW-Milwaukee) is talented in the back row and has great court awareness. Her speed makes her dangerous on defense and her control set the rest of the team up for success.

Motion Volleyball 18 Blue

Wisconsin Ice 18 National

All of these teams are talented and will face great competition in Louisville this weekend.
