There will be life after volleyball, and there are plenty of ways for student athletes to incorporate their passion for volleyball and academics. For some of the members of Mizuno M1 18-1, they will be playing their collegiate volleyball at some of the top academic schools in the country. There are plenty of top academic schools, but some of these are the elite. They only accept a certain percentage of students and to be considered among that percentage everything has to align from the rigor of AP classes, ACT scores, and extracurricular activities as well. Take a look at some of the athletes who are going big time with their academic careers after high school.

Alaina Bohrer

Committed to Washington University - St. Louis

Bohrer is a force on the right side and can terminate on either pin. She was part of Edina’s run to the state tournament this past fall. Bohrer will be heading to Washington University in St. Louis, better known as WashU, a perennial power Division 3 power where the study body comes in with an average of 32-34 ACT and only has a 17% acceptance rate. The Bears were the NCAA D3 Runner Up in 2016.

Ella Haugen

Committed to Bowdoin College

Haugen is a setter who also prepped on Edina High School. Her and Bohrer have been a combination of kills throughout their volleyball careers. Haugen will be heading to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine and is considered a “Little Ivy” where the student population comes in with an ACT from typically anywhere from 31-34. Much like WashU, their volleyball program is always one of the stronger teams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and in 2018 finished in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Grace Legris

Committed to Tufts University

Legris will be in the same conference as Haugen, attending Tufts University which is in the Boston area. Legris is a middle/right side from Minneapolis Southwest High School. Tufts, which is a traditionally strong pre-med school has the likes of Harvard and Boston College in its backyard. They accept 14% of applicants each year.

Sarah Luong

Committed to Emory University

Luong is from the Class of 2020 and is the setter for Benilde St. Margaret. She has shown the ability this club season to set at a high level and swing on the right side, but her future at the collegiate level will most likely be as a setter. Emory University is in Atlanta, Georgia and is coming off a 2018 Division 3 National Title, dropping only one set in the month of November. Most students will need at least a 30 to get accepted. Luong will be heading into the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
