Continue ReadingThe beat goes on in the club volleyball season after a hectic couple months of big events with World Challenges and Qualifiers on the JVA and USA schedules. While Division 1 college coaches go quiet, Des Moines will be a great opportunity for coaches in other divisions to continue to see some high quality talent. Within a couple hours of Des Moines there are many Division 3, NAIA, NJCAA, and a few Division 2 schools that are within an easy drive of the Iowa Events Center. Here are some top players to watch coming from Minnesota and Wisconsin in the Class of 2020.
Mikala Henderson – Crossfire 17-1 (MN)
Committed to Concordia-St. Paul
Henderson is a 5’9 outside hitter is that is so electric to watch. A six rotation player who can really swing out of the front and backrow plays with a fire and passion that is contagious for her team. This Crossfire crew as a whole has some really dynamic athletes and was extremely competitive in the Molten Series this winter which is the top power league in the Minneapolis Metro.
Maddie Whittington – Kokoro 17-1 (MN)
Committed to Illinois
At 6’4, Whittington can move extremely well and is very strong in the middle for Kokoro 17-1 which will be a big time favorite in the 17s division. Whittington led her Stillwater High School team to a semifinal appearance in Minnesota’s largest class this past fall. Her block is strong and she can thump on the ten footline with a quick snap.
Maddi Kealy – Kokoro 17-1 (MN)
Maddi KealyCommitted to Minnesota-Duluth
Kealy runs the show along with Lauren Stenman for Kokoro (committed to Lewis), while she is also the setter for River Falls who will be an early favorite for a state title in Wisconsin’s largest class. Kealy has great hands and pinpoint accuracy to run a variety of tempos to her hitters no matter who is in the lineup.
Maddie Weyker – Milwaukee Sting 17 Black (WI)
Committed to Bemidji State
There will be quite the crew competing in the Northern Sun in the future with Weyker heading to Bemidji State. The 2020 outside hitter has been a mainstay for Sting the past couple years and is really dependable all the way around. The will be one of the Senior leaders for Brookfield Central High School who is loaded with talent for the 2019 high school season.
Izzy Schauer – Milwaukee Sting 17 Black (WI)
Committed to Belmont
Schauer will be heading to Nashville to play for Belmont in the Ohio Valley Conference. The soon to be Senior setter is a flat out gamer. She jump sets extremely well and can be very offensive when needed. The tone is set with Schauer behind the service line and just keeps her team running a very high level.
Emily Banitt – Kokoro 17-1 (MN)
Committed to Loyola-Chicago
Bannit is one of plenty River Falls, Wisconsin athletes who head across the Mississippi River into St. Paul to play for Kokoro. The six rotation outside is quite the high flyer and puts the hammer down from the pin. Bannit and Kealy have been on the same side of the net for high school and club the past few years and their connection and chemistry definitely shows.
