Graduations, state track in La Crosse, soccer sectionals, and softball finishing up their sectional play into the state tournament. There will be some athletes at the Prep Dig Gauntlet who will be pulling some double duty heading into the weekend with juggling volleyball and state track.
Linnea Willer – FC Elite – Outside Hitter – Freedom High School
State Track – Discus
Willer will be competing in a state event for the second time in her Sophomore year. She was on Freedom’s basketball team that qualified for the state tournament. This weekend Willer will be in Flight 2 of the Division 2 Discus where she qualified with a throw of 120’5’’, the overall eighth seed. On the volleyball court, Willer can play on either pin. An incredibly efficient player who can score points and put up a solid block, Willer is a solid all around player and student.
Myka Roethel – FC Elite – Outside Hitter – Howards Grove High School
State Track – 4 x 100
Roethel is finishing up her Freshman year at Howards Grove and is part of a really deep Class of 2022 athletes for the Tigers. She can swing on either pin, has been a solid DS for the FC Elite 17s this club season, and could even play out of the middle if needed. Roethel will be on the 4 x 100 relay team along with high school volleyball teammate Mack Holzwart who has been the starting libero the past two season for Howards Grove. Howards Grove was one match short of the state tournament in 2018, but will be bringing back a very deep and talented squad.
Sydney Beasley – Iowa Rockets – Right Side – Darlington High School (WI)
State Track – 4 x 200
Beasley preps at Darlington High School in Wisconsin and will be able to play in her home state this weekend with her Iowa Rockets teammates which is out of the Iowa City area. Beasley will be running on the 4 x 200 relay for Darlington High School this weekend in La Crosse while her club team is also competing in the Prep Dig Gauntlet. Beasley is an athlete who plays well above the net at 6’1 and nearly touching 10 feet on her approach.
*Iowa had their state track meet two weeks ago at Drake University. Macy Daufeldt on the Iowa Rockets 15R squad won a state title in the Class 2A long jump.
