There is a story behind this one. In the 11 years I spent as a 6th grade teacher and the years I have coached volleyball, I always had at least one “Maddy” in my classroom or on the team. And yes, they all spelled their names differently or their names originated from Madison, Madelyn, Madeline, and so on. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week and for all those teachers and coaches who keep track of all of their students and athletes, and somehow remember how to spell their names correctly, this is for all the “Maddy’s” out there.

Writing for Prep Dig, I will be the first to point out I somehow find a way to mess up a name and I apologize in advance, I will do my best to make sure I have the correct spelling and the correct letters capitalized (Mckenna and McKenna, Makayla and MaKayla). However, a name I am continuing to work on and any of my former students would probably agree would be Haley, Halle, Halie, and Haleigh. My apologies still are going out there!

[player_tooltip player_id="16964" first="Madi" last="Kubik"] - Iowa PowerPlex - Outside Hitter - Class of 2019

Enrolled Early at Nebraska

She might be the best, Madi with one “d” and an “i”. With international experience on Team USA and an early graduation to get a head start at Nebraska this spring will hopefully provide Kubik with a solid start for what could be quite the decorated career as a husker.

[player_tooltip player_id="10222" first="Maddie" last="Koch"] - FC Elite - Outside Hitter - Class of 2019

Committed to Purdue

The top three athletes here will all be opponents over the next few years with Nebraska, Illinois, and [player_tooltip player_id="10222" first="Maddie" last="Koch"] heading to Purdue. Koch was named the Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year after only starting to play at the national level her Sophomore year of high school. She will be joined by another Maddie with [player_tooltip player_id="13904" first="Madeline" last="Chinn"] at Purdue who plays club for Michigan Elite.

[player_tooltip player_id="10007" first="Maddie" last="Whittington"] - Kokoro 17-1 (MN) - Middle Blocker - Class of 2020

Committed to Illinois

[player_tooltip player_id="80161" first="Maddi" last="Kealy"] - Kokoro 17-1 (MN) - Setter - Class of 2020

Committed to Minnesota-Duluth

Two on the same team, with these two its a connection of Maddi to Maddie with [player_tooltip player_id="80161" first="Maddi" last="Kealy"] being the setter and Whittington at middle blocker. Kealy has great hands and can really run the show with multiple tempos, finding the open hitter and Whittington is just a force where she is a really physical blocker and has a fast snap on her swing.

[player_tooltip player_id="79246" first="Madison" last="Geise"]- IPVA - Setter - Class of 2022

Iowa is stacked with Class of 2022 setters, one being [player_tooltip player_id="79246" first="Madison" last="Geise"] who ran the show last year for Roland Story High School with just under 900 assists as a Freshman. Her favorite target? Her older sister, Makayla, who will be playing at Valparaiso in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Maddie Weyker - Milwaukee Sting 17 Black - Outside Hitter - Class of 2020

Committed to Bemidji State

Weyker recently committed to Bemidji State which is building quite the pipeline of Wisconsin athletes. A six rotation outside hitter and extremely solid with her ball control, Weyker will be looking to lead her high school team to state along with the help of talented Class of 2022 athletes in [player_tooltip player_id="22407" first="Mckenna" last="Wucherer"] (Minnesota) and [player_tooltip player_id="81253" first="Morgan" last="Daugherty"].

[player_tooltip player_id="80182" first="Maddy" last="Dokken"] - Wisconsin Ice - Outside Hitter - Class of 2020

Committed to UW-Parkside

Dokken has been on the rise the past two years, having a successful high school season in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and continuing her success on the outside at Wisconsin Ice in Wausau, Wisconsin. She will be heading to the only Division 2 school in Wisconsin at UW-Parkside in Kenosha.

[player_tooltip player_id="57580" first="Mattie" last="Johnson"] - Northeastern VBC (Sidney High School-Nebraska) - Outside Hitter - Class of 2020

Committed to Nebraska

What an athlete, what an arm. She is the prototypical Nebraska athlete who can just do it all from the small town. You might wave at her town on I80 heading West into Colorado and Wyoming. Johnson plays her club ball in Colorado being just North of the Nebraska/Colorado state line.

Madi Woodlin and [player_tooltip player_id="37555" first="Maddie" last="MacTaggart"] - Nebraska Premier - Class of 2022

Another Madi/Maddie connection. Woodin is a really solid setter, part of the successful 6-2 system of Nebraska Premier that has collected plenty of hardware this season which includes a Triple Crown and Colorado Crossroads title. MacTaggart is usually on the receiving end of those passes where she can terminate with the best of them. They will be a favorite to compete for a title at the USAV National Championships in Indy later this summer.

[player_tooltip player_id="41683" first="Maddie" last="Layson"] - H2 Columbia - Libero/Outside - Class of 2020

Layson is a Class of 2020 all around athlete who really is a lockdown defender where she led Calvary Lutheran High School with over 300 digs in 2018 where she was an all state libero for the Lady Lions.

[player_tooltip player_id="41751" first="Maddy" last="Bushnell"] - 417 Net Results - Outside Hitter - Class of 2021

Committed To Missouri State

Bushnell has already given her commit to be a Lady Bear at Missouri State. She led her Willard High School team to over 30 wins and a state tournament in just her Sophomore year, ending a 14 year drought for the Tigers. She will be looking to head back with her high school team who returns a strong core of players, including her current teammate and future college teammate at Missouri State, [player_tooltip player_id="41750" first="Payton" last="Van Veen"].

[player_tooltip player_id="23440" first="Madison" last="Grace"] - Legacy 16 Elite - Right Side - Class of 2021

Pure high flyer, Grace is part of the Legacy 16 Elite squad out of the Detroit area that is full of athletes. Grace can block, swing to score points, and just has a lot of dynamic skills to contribute in any front row position on the court.
