Their presences is a huge asset to the tournament and will bring a competitive edge to each of the tournaments they are playing in. Royal has a strong collection of teams this year which has been fun to watch.
As a club, they tend to enter into the open divisions in tournaments and challenge themselves. Even doing so their teams usually place well. All of their teams are pretty well balanced between defensive control and offensive power.
15 Royal has grown a lot throughout the season. Every time I see them they have improved and it shows in their finishes at tournaments too. Recently, they placed 6th at the Juniors Grand Slam in the open division. Libero Lindsey Taylor is a leader on this team and super scrappy on defense. She is all over the court and works hard every play. Both setters, Alexis Scaffido and Allison Heder, have grown a lot this season and really were seeing the court well when I saw them play at the Juniors Grand Slam tournament last weekend.
16 Royal has suffered a lot of injuries this season and was playing with only six players on the second day of the Grand Slam tournament this past weekend. Even so, they still managed to place 3rd in the 16 Open division. This team has a great connection on the court and despite several setbacks this season, fights for every single point and still holds themselves to a high standard.
17 Royal will battle against any team. Even when they lose a match, they never go down easy. They have a lot of grit and some great offensive power. Katie Pogodzinski (Prep Dig Rank #98) is a dynamic hitter who is effective both in the middle and on the pins. Alayna Ritter (Prep Dig Rank #49) and Erika Connar are both great setters who move the ball around well. They have a deep roster of pin hitters who are all talented and have unique styles of play. This is a team with a lot of dynamic players who can play multiple positions as needed.
All three teams will bring a great competitive edge to the Prep Dig Gauntlet next weekend. We are excited to have them as a part of the inaugural tournament and will be getting comprehensive coverage of all teams attending throughout the weekend.
