How would one describes these teams with one word. Many teams have a mantra or one word that they will go to as their focus, their mission throughout the season. For these Nebraska teams, what would be a word to describe them heading into nationals?
Nebraska Premier 16 Gold – FORCE
Premier 16 Gold is going to be heading into Indianapolis with a gauntlet of a field of the best in the nation. However, with multiple weapons everywhere they are an offensive FORCE. They will have one of the top outside hitters in the country in Lindsay Krause (Nebraska), the top player out of the Class of 2021 from Iowa in Phyona Schrader (Notre Dame) setting as well as a cupboard full of athletes who will be filling up rosters of Division 1 rosters and top programs across the country.
Nebraska Elite 16 2.0 – FIRE
Watching this team at Northern Lights, I couldn’t help but think this team plays like their hair is on fire. The passion, the energy, the FIRE they play with. Setter, Allison Gray sets the tone, starts the fire with her energy and ability to make plays and also put her teammates in position to make plays as well. Her favorite targets are Shayla McCormick a recent commit to Omaha and Rylee Gray who will be joining the Huskers after graduation. Elite earned a bid to Indy at Northern Lights and are playing some of their best volleyball at the right time.
Markowski at the net for NEJRSNebraska Juniors 16 Black – CHILL
Getting a chance to see multiple matches of Nebraska Juniors 16 Black, they just seem to be cool, calm, and collected. Not getting too high or too low, but playing with consistency. They had a huge win over FC Elite, the Badger Region Champs out of Wisconsin who will be a top contender in the National Division in Indy. Despite have a few set losses and even match losses at the Prep Dig Gauntlet, they won some big points. Middle blocker, Alexis Markowski is an example of the team’s vibe throughout the match. She works hard, gets the job done, and is consistently pushing forward to do what she can for her team.
VCNebraska 16 Elite – DANGEROUS
VCNebraska will be playing in Orlando and with their athleticism and physicality they will be one DANGEROUS matchup. At the Stars and Stripes Tournament in Minneapolis over Memorial Day weekend they finished by defeating MN Select 16-1, Northern Lights 16-1, and lost the title game to Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold 14-16 in the third set. Northern Lights and Sting both have Open bids to USAV and with the momentum VCN has heading into Florida that could make them a tough out, especially in those key crossover matches heading into bracket play.
Premier 15 Gold – PACE
Pace of play. If this was basketball, they would be the pressing and trapping team from baseline to baseline putting relentless pressure on the opposing teams. With rock solid ball control they are able to run a fast pace offense that when it clicks, it is so tough to stop. They were strong and February and will be heading into the USAV 15 Open Championships as a favorite, but there are going to be multiple teams who will be wanting another chance at Premier after early season defeats at Triple Crown and Crossroads where Premier won titles.
