14 American Division
Midwest Penguins 14 Black
The Penguins were just finding their groove again at the Prep Dig Gauntlet in early June. Now they compete on the National stage coming in as a middle-of-the-pack seed. They have plenty of the play-makers on this team who could turn some heads, as well as players who should have very successful high school careers starting this fall.
Maddy McGathMaddy McGath (2023 – Middle Blocker) will be one of the top freshmen this fall and will help turn around the Brookfield East program. She has a fast swing, high contact, and great cross body shot. This group has other gifted Class of 2023 prospects in Mya Trafficante (2023 – Pin Hitter) and Aubrey Berlowski (2023 – Outside Hitter) on the pins. They will be heading into their freshmen year and looking to make a name for themselves.
Another athlete to keep tabs on would be a setter, Ava Clinton-Ragonese (2023), who is quick to the ball, has great footwork, and moves the ball around efficiently. The Penguins lost a hard-fought battle 19-25, 20-25 to a tough Austin Skyline 14 Royal to kick things off on Thursday in the AM Wave. Their 2nd match had a different outcome, but still a battle, as the Penguins beat Tsunami S141E Tad in 3 sets 25-21, 19-25, 15-12. They wrapped up the first day with a 2-0 win over Upward Stars 14 Bridgett (25-20, 25-20).
SWVBC G14 BLUE
SWVBC has athletes at every position. Keep an eye on this group to make an upset here and there. This group has a low pool seed, but with the likes of setter Kinsey Lutz (2023), they can surprise some teams. Lutz makes smart plays and can handle the tight pass.
SWVBC also had weapons in Anna Halverson (2023 – Middle Blocker) and Molly Lammers (2023 – Libero). They battled in the 1st set of their first two matches before falling in the 2nd to start pool play 0-2. They didn’t quite have enough gas at the end of the day against a tough Nebraska ONE 14 Velocity.
14 National Division
FC Elite 14 Navy
Ella DemitricianFC Elite is showing to be one of the most athletic teams in the National division, and they proved that seeding isn’t always right. Their first match was a huge win over the #2 overall seed, SG Elite 14 Roshambo, (27-29, 25-20, 15-11). They seemed to enjoy going into a deciding set, so they did it in their 2nd match as well, but this time ran out of steam, losing to KSVB GIRL’S 14 team by 13-15 in the 3rd. This group knows how to win with players that will surely be heading to play at the collegiate level. This team has a solid core, including Ella Demitrician (2024 – Outside Hitter), Rachel Koss (2023 – Setter), Sydney Bartels (2023 – Middle Blocker) and Karissa Fortune (2023 – Outside Hitter).
