With athletes across all classes heading to the likes of the top Big Ten programs, there is never a shortage of elite talent. However, who are the ones who are bound to have a breakout season? Whether it be filling in a new role, added experience, or overall improvement over the course of the year, improvement comes in a variety of ways. Here are some athletes who could really have a big breakout season.
Kendall Kemp – Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]
Kendal Kemp started her prep career out at Rodgers High School, but will now be joining up with Kennedi Orr for Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”] High School. Kemp is a 6’6 middle blocker who is going to be one of the top recruits in her class not only in Minnesota, but across the country. This fall she will get a chance to compete with other top athletes in the metro and be one of the favorites to win Minnesota’s largest class.
Jensen Luehrs – Champlin Park
Luehrs has the chance to make a huge impact for the Rebels who will be looking to replace some points from the likes of Lauren Carter (Penn State) and Emma Schmidt (Northern Iowa). Luehrs has a fast, left handed swing where she demonstrated how she can score points from this past weekend at the Wisconsin team camp. Champlin Park may not quite have the same look as last year, but will still be a contender to compete with.
Camille Libert – Prior Lake
Libert will be playing out of the middle for Prior Lake who was extremely young last year. With another year of experience, they will be a team to make a threat to rise up again. Libert is 6’3 and extremely fast and dynamic, getting from pin to pin to close the block and moving in transition where she can score points. She will be joined by Julia Hansen, a top Class of 2022 outside who recently committed to Minnesota.
Shaina Zinter – Concordia Academy
Concordia Academy out of Roseville made it to the state semifinals last year before running in to Marshall. Zinter came up big for the Beacons as just a Freshman. This year with more experience and another year working with standout setter, Brooke Weichbrodt, she will be a quick and athletic middle to put the ball down. Kira Fallert will be back on the outside as this team will have multiple weapons that can score.
Mya Suess – Kasson-Mantorville
With the graduation of Peyton Suess and Bailey Berge, Kasson-Mantorville will have some big gaps to fill with ball control, points, and experience. Suess was a solid role player for the KoMets last year and this year her role will be expanded as an offensive threat. K-M will still return Minnesota State commit, Emilee Terry and setter, Maddie Converse.
Lilly Waccholz – Mayer Lutheran
Waccholz will be back for her Sophomore year on a extremely deep, talented, and tall Mayer Lutheran squad that will have eight players 5’10 or taller. Wachholz, who stands at 6’1 (as a Freshman) can play on the pin or on the right side. The Crusaders will be a heavy favorite in Class A, but for Wachholz, this will be a year where she has the added experience to really take over a match.
Ashlyn Olson – New London-Spicer
Olson will be entering her Junior year and after a solid offseason playing for Kandi Elite, she will be a big presence for New London-Spicer. At 6’0 tall and a lefty right side, Olson brings a heavy swing and a big block to the front line.
Sadie Voss – Jackson County Central
Voss will be entering her Sophomore year as an uber athletic outside. At 5’10, Voss can play on the pin and also in the backrow. Jackson County Central has Wayne State commit, Alaina Wolff who is a outside/libero, but the talent coming up with Voss will be key as they compete in the ultra competitive and rigorous Big South Conference.
Natalee Rolbiecki – Minneota
Rolbiecki isn’t a new name to the big stage being on Minneota’s state championship team as a Freshman last year, however this year she will be a much bigger role and main point scorer after the graduations of Lydia Sussner. Rolbiecki is the type of athlete who can find success on any court or field, she makes it look easier. She will be more of an all around player this year and will depended upon to score points not only in the front row, but the backrow as well.
Ella Christ – Chaska
Christ will be entering her Freshman year, but this won’t be her first time around the volleyball court. A complete all around athlete and a player who can do a little bit of everything, Christ saw some action as an 8th grader. A lot of power, a major court presence, she will be fun to watch develop throughout her volleyball career.
