However, that was before a balanced field that included the Rochester schools as well as Northfield. With some key graduations there will be some spots up for grabs to lead the way and dethrone Lakeville North heading into late October. Here are some top players who will be key this season in Section 1AAA.
Ava Moes – Lakeville South – Class of 2021
Moes came on extremely strong last season, showing what she could do in key matches on the right side. With the ability to play in the middle, or either pin, Moes is able to use her power and high volleyball IQ to score a lot of points not only with her swing, but as an extremely physical blocker. She will team up with fellow Juniors to be Jasmine Weideman and Teagan Starkey as setters. The Cougars will have to replace libero Alena Molden as well as attackers Nicole Banitt and Jasmine Mulvihill.
Emma Torstenson – Northfield – Class of 2021
Committed to Colorado
Torstenson played with Moes this past club season for Northern Lights 16-1 and recently committed to play in the PAC-12 for Colorado. Torstenson is a 5’10 libero with incredible range and really creates a space where she can get the first contact to get Northfield in system. Her ability to cover so much of the floor is a major gamechanger. Teams will go away from her when it comes to serve/serve receive and if Northfield can funnel their opponents to hit at her on defense they will be tough to contend with.
Presley Fink – Northfield – Class of 2020
Bronwyn Timperley – Northfield – Class of 2020 – Committed to Northern Colorado
Fink had a big club season for Vital Volleyball club and will be heading into her Senior season as a dynamic pin who can hit a variety of shots. Combine Fink with Timperley who is another high flying outside for Northfield and there is always a solid outlet to score points. Timperley is also an extremely solid defender in the backrow and will be key to getting the offense in system.
Grace Rohde – Winona – Class of 2020
Grace Rohde on the attack.Committed to Viterbo
Rohde is a top player for V-Hawk Xtreme and was part of the Badger Region High Performance team out of Wisconsin. Rohde is able to score points from any position in the front row and has really developed a backcourt game as well. A strong and physical attacker, Rohde can find the open spots, but is also extremely aggressive in using her powerful swing.
Charlotte Nelson – Farmington – Class of 2020
Nelson is quite the spark for Farmington. A setter who can run the show, but also find a way to score points on the second contact. She had quite the national tournament for Northern Lights, earning All Star honors with her team finishing second in their division. She will be key for Farmington, especially with the graduation of libero Brenna Hesse who will be playing in the Horizon League at Green Bay this fall.
Halle Wolfe – Lakeville North – Class of 2020
Committed to Drake
Wolfe is super gritty and will find a way to change the game in her team’s favor with her passing as well as her energy. North will be looking to fill some spots after key graduations of Elizabeth Juhnke (South Dakota), Tori Thompson (South Dakota State), and Macy Winter (Navy). Wolfe will be heading Division 1 as well playing for Drake University out of Des Moines who is an up and coming power in the Missouri Valley Conference.
