The top three teams for the summer will be Catholic Memorial, Wisconsin Lutheran, and Kettle Moraine Lutheran. The unfortunate part about these three teams being at the top is that they will all see each in the sectional rounds before heading to state. Kettle Moraine Lutheran made their way out
Elle Truckenbrodof the gauntlet defeating Wisconsin Lutheran after Wisco beat Catholic Memorial in the sectional semifinal. Catholic Memorial will be powerful out of the middle with Kaitlyn Riley and Carly Clausen who bring athleticism, power, and experience. Isabella Halcomb will be a gritty libero as well. Wisco returns All State outside hitter and SIUE recruit, Julia Treichel along with a lefty and incredibly dynamic athlete in Natalie Tesch. KML brings back an athletic squad, but will have to replace some points by UW-Milwaukee recruit Ari Miller. Elle Truckenbrod will be back as one of the top D2 six rotation outsides as well as Gianna Feld at libero.
The Madison area is going to be stacked this year (specifically Section 3 where the sectional final will be at East Troy) with multiple teams who will win big tournaments, conference titles, and make a push for the state tournament. In the top ten (as of now) would be East Troy, Lake Country Lutheran, Lakeside Lutheran, Edgewood, Lake Mills, and Mount Horeb. Multiple Division 1 players in this group, two teams with state titles from 2018, and plenty of experience.
East Troy, the defending state champions lost two Division 1 recruits in Briana Scuric and Matison Jakscht, but will return big time point scorer Katie Winkler and setter Emily Wendt.
Rylee Vaughn passing for LCL.Lake Country Lutheran was suppose to be down last year after the graduation of Brooke Anderson, but followed up with a state title instead. A rugged schedule that will get them battle tested for the post season will be key with top defenders Rylee Vaughn, a Winona State recruit as libero and Adriana Studer who is a top defender in the Class of 2022. Setter Alyna Ruetter will be back as will outside hitter Evvie Kaczkowski and middle Gaby Garcia. Lakeside Lutheran will be looking to get back to state after winning the title in 2017.
Ella Collins will be a major go to point scorer on the outside and has committed to Eastern Illinois. They will also be bringing back both setters in Grace Westrate and Kaylee Raymond.
Edgewood might be a year away from being real scary, but they have a lot of talent where this could be a breakout year for many. Natalie Ring is one of the top Sophomores in the state along with fellow Sophomore Ally Barth. Ella Foti, a Marquette recruit can do plenty of things for Edgewood from setting to hitting and will be back after being injured in 2018.
Mount Horeb is a bit of a wildcard this year, but it’s tough to rule out of of the best players in Division 2 in Elise Goetzinger who is committed to Kentucky. Goetzinger may be one of the most physical players in the state that can block and attack with the best in the country. She had nearly 500 kills in 2018.
For Lake Mills, Sydney Lewellin was one of the top Freshmen setters in the state last year with nearly 600 assists and 100 kills. She will return along with top kill returner Grace Schopf.
In Northeast Wisconsin, Luxemburg-Casco has established themselves as one of the top programs year in and year out. After a state runner-up finish in 2017, the Spartans will look to play just 30 minutes from home in at the Resch Center in Green Bay. They will return experienced setter in Bekah Day along with attackers Kenzie Hanson and Holley Baierl. There is definitely some youth to this team that with a schedule that includes tournaments at Sun Prairie and the Charger Rally that will provide some tough competition to get this team prepped for postseason play.
