Past:
Louise Kiekhofer ready to pass for UWMWhile the Spartans have not seen a State title in their history there has been consistent collegiate talent in the program the last 10 years. 2016 saw Brookfield East win the schools first Conference Championship and set them up for a promising 2017 season. Brookfield East entered that season ranked number one in the state with 10 seniors on the roster. They walked into the Joust with one goal in mind…holding that trophy. They did just that, winning the tournament and showing everyone that they meant business. That season brought in another share of the conference title, but unfortunately was cut short by DSHA.
While 2016 and 2017 were the programs first Conference Championships, Brookfield East has been producing All-Conference, All-State, college-bound players consistently. Here are some of those most notable Spartans.
Diane Schmidlin – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (2007 – 2010) – DS/L
Shea LauriaNoelle Peterson – Northern Kentucky (2008 – 2011) – Outside
Taylor Wilkerson – Cedarville University (2015 – 2018) – Outside
Petra Bryda – St. Edward’s University (2015 – 2018) – Setter/Right Side
Louise Kiekhofer – UW-Milwaukee (2016 – Present) – Outside
McKenna Scott – UW-Osh Kosh (2016 – Present) Right Side
Taylor Allen – Northern Iowa (2017) – UW-Osh Kosh (2018 – Present) – Middle Blocker
Emma Kiekhofer – UW-Osh Kosh (2018 – Present) Setter
Shea Lauria – Witchita State – (2019 Freshman) DS/Libero
Present:
Unlike years past, Brookfield East will only have to replace 2 graduated seniors. However, Shea Lauria and Hannah Maney played keys roles a year ago. Shea led the team in digs as their libero and iscurrently beginning her college career at Wichita State. Riley Kindt will be biggest offensive weapon for the Spartans. Riley led the team kills and blocks a year ago and junior setter Rachel Wessel will look to her again in 2019. Unless an underclassman comes into play Coach Hubbard will look for Ellie Pink and Greta Prunuske to compete for the libero jersey. The Spartans will rely senior Emily Veenhuis to step into a major offensive role to take some focus away from Riley. Look for sophomores Maddie Barton and Paige Platz to find themselves on the court regularly after successful club seasons with Motion Volleyball Program and Milwaukee Sting respectively.
Riley Kindt and fatherFuture:
Brookfield East will see another “advantage” in conference play and graduate only 3 seniors as they look to the 2020 season. Unfortunately one of those graduates will be Riley Kindt; who on top of being an All-Conference and potential Division 1 talent middle blocker is a regular at the WIAA State Track & Field meet. Maddie Barton and Paige Platz will need to step into huge roles for the Spartans to compete for the top 4 positions within the conference. The GMC is very top heavy and this program has been able to give plenty of varsity experience to underclassman. Those reps will pay dividends as they approach their senior years. East will finish 8th in conference in 2019 and then fight to get back to the middle in 2020.
