Wauwatosa East was a constant threat to go to State in the 70’s – 90’s. In total, they made 16 appearances including 8 of 10 seasons in the 90’s. The Red Raiders own 6 State Championships, 2 in each decade of their dominance on the court. Coach Joe Lynch led his team to the finals 5 years in a row (1991-1995) and again in 1997. During his stint in his hometown. He established himself as one of the top Prep Coaches in the midwest. 2005 saw him named AVCA Prep Coach of the year before he moved with his wife to coach at Iowa State University where they both remain today.

Tosa East struggled to get back to their GMC dominance upon Lynch’s departure for the college ranks. Coach Gary Tome led the team to their first 20 win season since 2006 in his second year with the program in 2016. His daughter, Chloe Tome, helped put East back near the top of the conference as a 4 year starter.

Chloe TomeState University, Anna Rossner will begin her career at UW-Lacrosse. Rossner was another 4 year varsity letter winner that led the team in blocks and finished 2nd in kills as a middle blocker. Senior Sophia Wilhem will be tasked with being the new go to swing on the outside. Stephanie Peura will be back running the offense while relying on some new swings to step into the spotlight. Sophomore middle-blocker Olivia Scallon got a taste of varsity a year ago. Look to junior Sydney Bitenc to be her running mate in 2019. Seniors Jane Osowski and Abby Chiesa will compete for the libero jersey after virtually tying in dig totals last season.
Sophia Wilhem (7) at the net for EastFuture:
Tosa East will have to make their push in 2019. They could potentially roll out a roster with 8 seniors leaving some unknown to their future. The Red Raiders finished 4th in conference a year ago and will have to play very clean to reach the top four again. Other teams in the conference have some “bigger names.” However, experience and chemistry of this team has together will make them a tough match up each week. 2020 will lend itself to the talent being build on the JV and Freshman teams at East.
