Here are some top players to be on the lookout for in 2019.
Jecenta Sargisson – LeMars
With nearly 250 kills, Sargisson was the top attacker along with Pypr Stoeffler in 2018. Both will be back along with a strong core of the team that was inexperienced in 2018, but will be much improved this upcoming season. Sargisson will be hitting off their top two returning setters in Brooke Haage and Kady Leusink. The Bulldogs were once part of the Lakes Conference in Northwest Iowa, but will no longer have to make the long bus ride to Emmetsburg and Estherville. This is a great fit location and competition-wise for LeMars.
Elaina Bohnet – Council Bluffs Abe Lincoln
Committed to Iowa Western
Bohnet is one of the newest commits out of the Class of 2020, giving her verbal to play at Iowa Western, an NJCAA D1 national power in Council Bluffs. Before she starts her college career she has big aspirations for the Lynx who will be looking to get to the state tournament. Bohnet was an All State pick in 2018.
Taylor Wilshire – Sioux City Heelan
Wilshire will be entering her Junior year as the libero for the Crusaders in 2019. After posting nearly five digs per set as a Sophomore, she will be one of the top defenders in the conference. Wilshire spent her offseason playing for MVP in Sioux City for club and will continue to be on the radar for liberos in the Class of 2021.
Kenzie Foley – Sergeant Bluff-Luton
St. Cloud State
She hasn’t graduated yet? For the conference, they will have to go up against Foley for one more season as she has been a staple for the Warriors since she first stepped on the varsity floor. From multiple state tournament runs and All State honors, Foley will look to lead her team to one more state tournament appearance with a team who will be looking to reload from 2018.
Lineya Wells – Sioux City East
East has made a debut in the first IGHSAU rankings in the top 15 for Class 5A. Wells is the top returning attacker for the Black Raiders where she had nearly 300 kills. The Black Raiders will have a big test to start out the season where they will be one of nine ranked teams at the Ankeny Centennial Early Bird Invite this weekend.
Sam Christensen – Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (Title Photo)
Nearly 10 assists per set and 1,000 during the season is no easy feat for a setter, but Christiansen had a Junior year that was big time. She will be dishing to five attackers returning who all had over 100 kills in 2018. Christiansen can attack herself averaging nearly one kill per set.
