Continue ReadingHIgh school season always brings out the best in seniors. They have been there before, played in games that matter and have built up their leadership skills. Many juniors have been the ones to lead at their age level, but now it’s different. School pride along with seniors in front of them, and possibly fulfilling different roles from club season, all play a factor in their teams success. Maybe their success as well.
Here is a list of juniors to watch as they hit the court this season.
Name , Ht, Pos, High School, Volleyball Club, College Commitment
Mira Chopra, 6’3, MB, Champaign Central,
Illini Elite
VBC, Michigan
The highly sought after middle hitter, who’s heading to Michigan in 2021, had 117 kills during last year’s high school campaign. HIt’s the ball with accuracy and has a great arm swing. Mira helped her team to a Confrence title in 2018.
Jillian Gray, 6’0, OH, Joliet Catholic, Uno VBC, Georgia Southern
The talent-laden outside hitter, Jillian completed her sophomore stanza with 247 kills, 186 service points, 37 aces, 32 block kills, 16 assists, and 272 digs. Jillian will look to help the team to the 3A State Tournament in 2019, where they were a third place finisher last season.
Kaitlin Leider, 5’7, OH/L, Belvidere North,
VC United
, Bradley
Kaitlin is growing into the Outside Hitter position for North Belvidere, while in club she has seen a lot of action as a Libero. Add her passing skills into a developing swing, she will have a large say in the Blue Thunders success this season.
Molly Mather 5’11, S Marist, 1st Alliance VBC, Bradley
It’s easy to say the offense around Molly at Marist makes it easy for her, but she still has to get the ball to her outstanding hitters. She’s underated.
Maddy McCormick, 6’0, OH, Crystal Lake Central, Sky High VBC, Colorado State
Last season, Maddy recorded 180 kills and 274 digs, while leading the team in 54 service aces as a sophomore. She was also named AAU All-American for her play at AAU Nationals. Her team placed fifth out of 68 teams.
Zayna Meyer, 6’1, S, Wheaton Warrenville, Sports Performance VBC, BYU
A junior with a hitter’s arm, Zayna can put the ball hard on the floor anywhere she wants. Witnessing her play first hand, she plays like a seasoned veteran. BYU will be lucky to have her!
Rachel Muisenga, 6’1, S Benet Academy, Adversity VBC, Penn State
You can expect nothing from the best coming from Rachel, who signed with the Penn State Nittany Lions. She looks to lift Benet Academy from their third place 3A finish last year to Illinois State champs in 2019.
