The Class of 2020 has players going across the nation to continue their volleyball and academic career, and there are still more who will be making that commit before the end of the year. Here are a few who definitely need to be on the radar for college coaches that would make a great fit at the next level!
Brooke Mulholland – Clinton
Setter
Mulholland runs a 5-1 and distributes with ease. She can dish, attack, block, and defend – a total package for a setter who runs the show. A member of Iowa Select and Senior at Clinton High School, Mulholland has the tools to really help in a variety of ways at the next level. A great addition to a solid gym culture, Mulholland is the type of athlete that will flourish at the college level.
Kirsten Graves – Cedar Falls
Libero
Huge success at Cedar Falls High School and Six Pack, Graves is accustomed to playing high level volleyball. As a libero, Graves has the length and range to cover a large part of the court. As a Junior, Graves averaged nearly 4.5 digs per set and has played at the USAV 17 Open National Championships as part of Six Pack. She knows how to compete and knows how to win.
Emily Strauss – Linn-Mar
Pin Hitter
Another athlete who knows how to win. Strauss has played in state tournaments for Linn-Mar and was also part of the Eastern Iowa Xtreme 17 Teal squad who won the 17 National title at USAV Nationals this past July. She will be a major go-to option for the Lions this fall with the ability to attack out of multiple front row positions. A terminal hitter with the ability to mix up her shots, she would be a definite presence at the net when it comes to the next level.
Katelyn Knudsen – Dallas Center-Grimes
Pin Hitter
Knudsen was a key part in the state run for DCG last fall where they advanced to the state semifinals in Class 4A. Knudsen averaged nearly 3 kills per set and had over 300 digs in her Junior season. Her high school team is already off to an 8-2 start so far this season.
Sara Klunder – Hudson
Pin Hitter
Klunder brings a solid presence to the right side at 6’1, being a lockdown defender at the net with the ability to take away various angles of the outside hitter. She was a key member of the same Six Pack squad that Graves was on this past club season. Hudson will be a top team in Class 2A and Klunder will be a key part to their success.
Abbey Griffin – Albia
Pin Hitter
Griffin is a solid all around athlete who even has experience of playing in the state softball tournament as well as being a standout in volleyball. Griffin is able to play position in the front row, with lateral quickness to go from pin to pin to block and a huge arm to blast away on the outside. Albia is off to
Emma Jenness of Spirit Lake.an 8-0 start and Griffin is averaging four kills per set, not a surprise by any means based on what she was able to show this past club season at CIS.
Emma Jenness – Spirit Lake
Spirit Lake is off to a solid start this season and one of the key parts of that is Senior setter Emma Jenness. Jenness is coming off plenty of momentum as a Junior and so far her Senior year is leading the Indians with just over eight assists per set. She has plenty of targets to dish to and will look to lead Spirit Lake to a deep postseason run!
Anna Marvelli – Indianola (Title Photo From Des Moines Register)
Marvelli can do it all. She is not afraid to step in and do whatever she can for her team. I’ve seen her swing from the pin, hold down the backrow as libero, and even step in and play middle at camps and showcases. She can set as well. Marvelli is the type of athlete you need in the gym who can make a positive impact and help the team in multiple ways.
