SPRINGFIELD – What looked like a potentially stiff test on paper for the top-ranked team in Class C1 turned out to be nothing of the sort as Wahoo cruised to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-14 win at Class B #6 Platteview.
The two-time defending Class C1 champs improved to 6-1 on the season with the sweep. The Warriors only loss this season came against Class B #3 Norris. With the loss, Platteview dropped to 3-2 on the year. The only other loss this year for the Trojans was also against Norris.
Platteview kept things interesting early in the first set and Wahoo’s lead was just 10-8 when Anna Koehler got a kill on then outside. But, after that, Wahoo went on a 9-2 run to build a comfortable 19-10 lead on a kill by Mya Larson, en route to a 25-15 win.
A kill by Piper Hart gave Platteview a 1-0 lead to start the second set, but as it would turn out, that would be the only time during the entire match that the Trojans held a lead on Wahoo. The Warriors answered with a 5-0 run that featured an Elle Glock setter dump for a kill sandwiched between four more kills from Larson. Wahoo increased its lead to 11-3 when Platteview was called for a double contact and glided to a 25-14 win.
It was more of the same in the third set as Wahoo jumped to a 12-3 lead early and then coasted to the 25-14 win for the sweep.
Larson, a sophomore, led Wahoo with 24 kills on the night to go with two aces serves, three blocks and 10 digs. Glock, a junior, ended the night with 28 assists, four kills, a block and nine digs. Lillie Mann added four kills for Wahoo while Kelsie Sears and Josie Sutton each had three. Kendal Brigham had a team-high 17 digs.
For Platteview, Koehler finished the night with 17 kills and Halle Johnson had four. Audrey Staudt and Jaedyn Parks each had three kills for the Trojans and Rachel MacDonald finished with 28 assists.
