Major Movement In Class 1A Highlight Updated Rankings for 9/26/2019
New rankings are out from the IGHSAU for September 26 and Class 1A sees plenty of movement with teams heading up as well as new teams cracking the top 15.
Class 1A
Sidney remains in the top spot, but right behind them moves Council Bluffs St. Albert. Besides a lost to Carroll-Kuemper, St. Albert has been impressive with big wins at the Atlantic tournament defeating Glenwood, Treynor, Underwood, Winterset, and Atlantic. Allie Petry, the Junior all-around outside hitter is leading the team with 4.6 kills per set while also leading in digs with 110. Tripoli has moved back up into the rankings from 12 to 6 behind the attacking of Zoe Semelroth and the Freshman Mallory Meuller setting. A big win over rival Janesville was impressive and this weekend will feature a tournament at Denver with some top powers in Northeast Iowa, including Dyersville Beckman.

Class 2A
Western Christian and Osage stop atop after some big wins in the past week. Western defeated then number seven ranked Spirit Lake while Osage won the Dike-New Hartford Tournament. Mediapolis, led by Helaina Hillyard (Western Illiinois) is still undefeated and ranked sixth. Wilton has had quite a week with top competition defeating highly ranked West Liberty in Class 3A and a near five set loss against then top ranked Tipton.
New Teams Ranked:
Denver – will host a tournament with Beckman and Tripoli on Saturday.
Lake Mills
Class 3A
Belle Weber and Jasmyn Bush are the top two kill leaders for Union who is now the top ranked team in Class 3A. The only losses suffered so far was at the North Scott Tournament, but the Knights do have matches with Dike-New Hartford and Waverly-Shell Rock on the schedule. Keep an eye on Tipton, West Liberty, and Davenport Assumption. These squads from Southeast Iowa have all traded victories against each other and will be interesting to see how their Regionals are drawn up come October. Mount Vernon has dropped to number ten with a loss to Red Oak at the Red Oak Tournament this past weekend.

Class 4A
The top ten in Class 4A hasn’t changed, but they have picked up some big wins where Wahlert defeated Liberty and Sergeant Bluff-Luton had some major wins against 5A opponents at the Waukee tournament while also defeating conference rival Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. Xavier will be having a huge week of top opponents next week when they face top ranked in Class 5A Cedar Falls, followed by The Mother McAuley Asics Challenge in Chicago with some of the top teams in the country. Dubuque Wahlert will also be in attendance at the Asics Challenge. Boone is hosting a tournament Saturday which will feature Gilbert, North Polk, Waverly-Shell Rock, and Ankeny.

Same teams, some top powers continuing a crash course with teams from the MVC and the CIML trading wins against each other. Valley defeated Waukee, Dowling defeated Ankeny, the list goes on – won’t be the last time they see each other either. The new team breaking into the top 15 is Cedar Rapids Kennedy, with four attackers over 100 kills led by Senior Katie Jensen. After a rough start the Cougars have won 11 of their past 13.
