Here is a look back at all the action from around the state on Tuesday, Sept. 3. All stats are pulled from MaxPreps. If you team’s stats aren’t entered into MaxPreps or emailed from a coach to Berk@PrepDig.com by 10 a.m. the morning following a match, I can’t include them in the recap stories.
Class A
#1 Papillion-LaVista improved to 7-0 on the season with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18 win over #9 Papillion-LaVista South. Sophie Hendrix had 14 kills, 17 digs and two blocks for Papio South while Ava LeGrand had 16 assists, 10 kills and six blocks. Delanie Vallinch had a team-high 23 digs for the Titans.
#2 Elkhorn South moved to 2-0 on the year with a 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17 win at #7 Omaha Marian. Ibi Green had 18 kills and Kylie Weeks had 17 as both players hit .390 on the night for the Storm. Rylee Gray added 14 kills and Brilee Wieseler had 12. Estella Zatechka led Elkhorn South with 30 digs and Madi Wooden finished with 62 assists.
Marian was led by Payton Kirchhoefer’s 19 kills and three blocks while Katie Kilzer had nine kills and MC Daubendiek had eight. Sarah Montague had four aces and 24 assists while Ellie Miller had 31 digs and Maria Ring had 19 assists.
Elkhorn, ranked #10, swept both Columbus (25-17, 25-10) and Bishop Neumann (25-12, 25-13) in a triangular. In the two matches combined, Abby Wolfe had 14 kills for the Antlers while Addie Thomas had 11. Grace Heaney had six kills and 20 assists on the night while Claire Buford had 16 digs and Abbie Nadgwick had 20 assists.
Class B
Top-ranked Waverly swept Ashland-Greenwood 25-10, 25-13, 25-18 while #2 Skutt Catholic defeating Sioux City Bishop Heelan 25-5, 25-15, 25-17. #5 Sidney won its first match of the year over Kimball 25-10, 25-14, 25-14.
Seward, ranked #7, picked up a pair of wins by defeating Hastings 25-10, 18-25, 25-16 and knocking off Hastings Adams Central – ranked #10 in C1 – 25-22, 25-20. #8 Lexington defeated Cozad 25-13, 25-11, 25-15.
#9 Gering got 19 kills from Elli Winkler and had a total of 23 ace serves – just three shy of the all-time Class B record – in its 25-12, 19-25, 25-20, 25-10 win over Torrington, Wyoming. Zoee Smith had 18 digs, which put the Wyoming recruit over 1,000 for her career, and Macey Boggs had 33 assists.
Class C1
#3 Lincoln Lutheran got 14 kills from Wichita State recruit Marriah Buss and five apiece from Abi Wohlgemuth and Abby Wachal in a 25-11, 25-11, 25-17 win over Raymond Central. Lexie Kreizel had 17 digs and five aces while Paige Trunta had 14 assists. For Raymond Central, Rylee Polivka and Gracfe Mueller each had five kills.
#4 Columbus Scotus defeated Centennial Conference foe Omaha Concordia 25-14, 25-8, 25-19. Emily Otten led Concordia with eight kills and 14 digs while Kim Christensen and Allie Wilson each had four kills.
#5 Lincoln Christian downed Class D1 #8 Archbishop Bergan 15-25, 31-29, 25-22, 25-21.
Gothenburg pulled an upset of #9 Southern Valley in five sets, rallying for a 17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13 victory.
Class C2
Top-ranked Grand Island Central Catholic defeated defending Class C2 state champions Blue Hill 25-13, 25-20, 25-22. Madison Menke led Blue Hill with 11 kills and 27 digs while Brooklyn Kohmetscher had 10 kills and 25 digs.
Kalynn Meyer had 21 kills and nine digs while Shayla Meyer had 12 kill, three blocks and six digs to lead #3 Superior to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-17 win over Fillmore Central. Sierra Blackburn had 19 assists for Superior and Zaveah Kobza had 15.
#4 Summerland defeated Class D1 #4 CWC 25-21, 25-22 but lost to Central Valley 20-25, 25-20, 25-17 in a triangular. Ashlyn Wright had 11 kills for Central Valley in its match.
#5 South Loup came up short against Class D1 #6 Pleasanton 29-27, 25-22, 23-25, 16-25, 15-12. Jessie Sallach had 18 kills for South Loup and Jadeyn Bubak had 14. Calyn Laible had 38 digs and Mya Weverka had 36 assists.
#6 Mead got a 25-13, 25-13, 25-17 sweep of Johnson County Central. Abby Miller had 11 kills for Mead and Rebecca Halbmaier added eight. Delaney Patocka had 12 digs for the Raiders and Emily Quinn had 28 assists. For Johnson County Central, Carrie Beethe had six kills and Hayley Neemann had 16 assists.
#7 Lutheran High Northeast defeated Class D1 #5 Hartington Cedar Catholic 25-23, 25-12, 25-23. Abby Hochstein had 10 kills for Hartington CC while Megan Heimes had 10 digs and Aiden Wortmann added 19 assists.
#8 Ponca defeated Lauren-Concord-Coleridge 25-23, 26-24, 25-20.
Class D1
#1 Diller-Odell swept Southern 25-16, 25-11, 25-13.
#2 Meridian rallied to defeat Class D2 #4 Giltner 22-25, 27-25, 25-16 and then swept Red Cloud 25-8, 25-17 in a triangular. In the win over Giltner, Halle Pribyl had 16 kills and Josiee Sobotka had five for Meridian. Cassidy Tompkin led Giltner with 13 kills and Sydney Janzen had nine kills. In the win over Red Cloud, Pribyl had six kill and Ally Kort had four.
Giltner also had a 25-16, 25-23 win over Deshler. Tompkin had 10 kills in the match for Giltner and Janzen and Payton Hunnicutt each had four. For Deshler, Brenna Dubbert had five ace serves.
#3 Overton took a 25-13, 25-13, 25-11 win over Ravenna. Haley Fleischman had 17 kills for Overton and Rcahel Eklund and Morgan Bamer each had seven. Anna Brennan had 32 assists. Tristin Nelson led Ravenna with five kills.
#4 CWC suffered a pair of losses, falling 25-23, 25-22 to Central Valley and its loss to Class C2 Summerland, as noted above. Ashlyn Wright had eight kills for Central Valley in the match and Dani Wadsworth had six.
#9 Fullerton defeated St. Edward 25-22, 25-12, 25-6. Emma Olson had three kills and three digs for St. Edward.
Class D2
Top-ranked Wynot swept Boyd County 25-8, 25-17, 25-20 while #2 BDS won both matches in a triangular, beating Sutton 25-10, 25-14 and Sandy Creek 25-14, 25-10. Leah Hatch had five kills in the loss for Sandy Creek.
#3 Nebraska Christian swept Elba 25-9, 25-9 and beat Gibbon 25-17, 25-13. Grace Langemeier had 10 kills in the win over Gibbon.
#6 Brady got a pair of wins on the night with a 25-13, 25-16 vioctory over South Platte as well as a 25-11, 25-20 win over Perkins County.
