For some, it may be homecoming week, student sections, student sections with themes, and a little more flair to the event. Tonight will feature top matchups across the state with some of the top players in their respective area. Here is a quick glance for Tuesday, September 24 which will feature plenty of fireworks to go around.
2A – #15 ACGC vs. 3A – #13 Des Moines Christian
Chloe Largent has been having an outstanding Sophomore year averaging just over six kills per set and an even more impressive .414 hitting efficiency. Strong, athletic, and really diverse in her skill set has set her apart from the rest the field. Des Moines Christian will be bringing in a hungry team at 13-0, led by Junior, Alysen Dexter and Senior, Megan Riddle who are both averaging around 4.5 kills per set. Dexter and Largent have experience for the Iowa High Performance team and are two of the top athletes in Central Iowa. Could ACGC give Des Moines Christian their first loss?
2A – #5 Wilton vs. 3A – #1 Tipton
Wilton has two of the top Sophomore in a really dominant Class of 2022 coming out of Southeast Iowa. Kelsey Drake and Ella Caffery have been leading the way for the Beavers after seeing significant roles as Freshmen on their 2018 state team. They knocked off West Liberty last week and will face the top team in 3A in Tipton who is coming off a loss to West Liberty. Could this be one of those situations where Tipton comes back onto the court with a little chip on their shoulder? Sommer Daniel, reigning Class 3A Player of the Year will be key in this matchup where she can set or swing. Daniel is one of the most dynamic athletes in the state.
2A – #1 Western Christian vs. 3A – #7 Spirit Lake
Western has the history and Spirit Lake has some serious momentum on their side. Spirit Lake is sitting at 21-2 with one of the top kill leaders in the state with Emma Loveall, a UW-Milwaukee commit. Western is the top ranked team in 2A with their only losses coming to some of the top programs out of the Omaha area.
4A – #2 Sergeant Bluff-Luton vs. 5A – #8 Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln
SBL sent a major statement to the rest of the state this past weekend at Waukee, defeating the likes of Waukee, Pleasant Valley, Ankeny, and Norwalk. They suffered their first loss of the season to Valley which is ranked #4 in Class 5A. Abe Lincoln has had a similar season so far with big tournament wins and a high powered, balanced lineup. SBL will play host in one of the premier matches in the MRC.
