Another weekend, another big time tournament. 15 teams compete for the Sue Garvick Varsity tournament, host by Rich East High School. It seems fitting that this tournament is held by the Rich East Rockets because their are quite a few players here, as well as teams that are on the rise! Below are the brackets, where they are played and starting times. Read through the list of Players to watch as that's who will decide the pool play!

Rich East Brackets – Friday, Sept. 27, 2019

At Rich East
5:00pm Lemont vs. Rich East (Court A)
5:00pm Providence Catholic vs. Shepard (Court B)

6:00pm Lemont vs. Shepard (Court A)
6:00pm Providence Catholic vs. Rich East (Court B)

7:00pm Lemont vs. Providence Catholic (Court A)
7:00pm Shepard vs. Rich East (Court B)

Outstanding Athletes
Amy Schwem, 2020, 5’10, S, Lemont, Michio, William and Mary
The Prepdig.com player to watch, Schwem was a Wheaton Classic All Tournament selection.

Izabela Gorys, 2020, 5’8, OH Providence Catholic
Early stats had Izabela leading the team with 48 kills in 15 sets played, She added 13 kills againt the Joliet West Tigers Wednesday night in a Celtic three set victory.

Prediction:
Lemont is coming off their first place, Silver bracket win at the Prestigious Wheaton Classic, but Providence Catholic can’t be taken for granted, Look for Lemont’s right side Amanda Rice to match up with PC’s Gorys for a battle at the net between the best two teams in this bracket.

At Marian Catholic
5:00pm Marian Catholic vs. Lindblom (Court A)
5:00pm Bradley Bourbonnais vs. Lyons (Court B)

6:00pm Marian Catholic vs. Bradley Bourbonnais (Court A)
6:00pm Lyons vs. Lindblom (Court B)

7:00pm Marian Catholic vs Lyons (Court A)
7:00pm Bradley Bourbonnais vs. Lindblom (Court B)

Players to watch:
Patti Cesarini, 2020, 5’11, Lyons Township, 1st Alliance VBC, Oakland
The 5’11 outside hitter, Cesarini has been one of the many weapons this offense dleivers. She is ranked 16th among Prepdig.com 2020 rankings.

Grace Asleson, 2020, 5’9, S Lyons Township, 1st Alliance VBC Stetson
A Prepdig.com player to watch, Asleson is one of the best setters around the state.

Brianna Brown, 2021, 5’11, OH/MH, Marian Catholic
In 2019, Brown leads the Spartans with 92 kills through 28 sets. In a three-set win over Anderson (Merrill, IN), Brown had 11 kills.

Prediction:
Offensively, Aselson will spread the ball for Lyons township, enough to give them the top seed in the pool.

At Mother McAuley
5:00pm Mother McAuley vs. Riverside Brookfield (Court A)
5:00pm Downers Grove South vs. Andrew (Court B)

6:00pm Mother McAuley vs. Andrew (Court A)
6:00pm Downers Grove South vs. Riverside Brookfield (Court B)

7:00pm Mother McAuley vs. Downers Grove South (Court A)
7:00pm Andrew vs. Riverside Brookfield (Court B)

Sharp shooters in the pool
Brianna Haggerty, 2020, 5’9, OH, Andrew, Michio, UNC-Wilmington
If they played the match outside, Haggerty would be a runaway winner. She was part of a beach tandem that finished third at the ROX National Championships in Lewisville, Texas this summer.

Connie Lebel, 2021, 5’9, OH, Mother McAuley
Connie leads the team in kills and aces with 98 and 16, respectively.

Jayla Hampton, 2020, 5’8, RS, Downers Grove South
offensively, she was a force to be reckoned with when WW South played them early in the season. Look for her to push the Mighty Macs and others in pool play.

Prediction:
The 7 o’clock matches will determine placing. Mother McAuley should be the top seed but don’t count Downers Grove South out.

At Rich South
5:30pm Lincoln Way East vs. Chicago Christian
6:30pm Loyola Academy vs. Chicago Christian
7:30pm Loyola Academy vs Lincoln Way East

Tournament Risers
Jessica Pappas, 2020, 5’11, OH/RS, Lincoln Way East, 1st Alliance, Wisconsin-Parkside
The powerful outside hitter has left her mark in many tough matches this season. Pappas was instrumental in defeating Sandburg last week.

Jackie Yau, 2020, 5’9, MH, Loyola Academy
Many programs would say she undersized as a middle, but Jackie hits the ball hard and with placement and purpose.

Loyola lost a three-set final at the New Trier Tourney early in the season. They look to push through past anything LWE throws at them. LWE just upset Sandburg for third place at the Wheaton Classic! This will be a great match!

Saturday's pools will be determined by Friday's results. Look for them here on Prepdig.com
