Class 1A Regional play kicks off this week and with that being said, here are some top duos throughout the state who will look to lead their teams in a deep post season run.
Bailey Hoff – Janesville
Julia Meister – Janesville (Title Photo – Cred: Waverly Newspaper)
Janesville is still there. After graduating some important pieces to their back to back to back state titles, they are still a force to be reckoned with largely in part to their two Senior attackers in Hoff and Meister are both are nearing the 300 kill mark. With only one loss to a Class 1A team (Tripoli on September 19th), this group will be looking to make it back to Cedar Rapids with some new faces.
Katie Kopriva – North Tama
Takoa Kopriva – North Tama
For North Tama, most rallys will start and finish with the last name Kopriva. Takoa is the libero who has tallied up over 300 digs, while Katie has over 200 kills, averaging nearly four kills per set. North Tama has been a consistent member of the top five in Class 1A with their only losses to a Class 1A school coming at the hands of Janesville and BCLUW.
Lydia Imbrogno – Wapsie Valley
Kalvyn Rosengarten – Wapsie Valley
Wapsie Valley has always been a strong program out of the Cedar Valley area. With Imbrogno and Rosengarten teaming up as attackers, the Warriors are continuing to be one of of the top teams. With these two combining for over 500 kills, the Sophomore and Freshman are getting plenty of those kills off Senior setter Kaci Beesecker who has over 600 assists and 100 kills, finding a way to get it done for WV.
Maysun Marshall – Lisbon
McKenna Nelson – Lisbon
Lisbon is having quite the year and that is in large part to their Senior class. Maysun Marshall has over 300 kills and setter, McKenna Nelson has over 900 assists. Lisbon will be a favorite in their Regional where they will start play against the winner of Calamus-Wheatland and Midland. Belle Plaine is on the other side of the bracket and has 25 wins on the year which Lisbon defeated earlier this season at the South Tama Tournament.
Alexa Culbertson – Coon Rapids-Bayard
Alaya Betts – Coon-Rapids Bayard
Culbertson and Betts are two of the top attackers for Coon Rapids-Bayard who are heading into the post season with a record of 21-9. These two are both Juniors and will look to lead their squad to a deep post season run. They will kick off tournament play against Paton-Churdan.
Josie Kolbeck – Le Mars Gehlen
Sydney Livermore – Le Mars Gehlen
Gehlen has put itself in position as one of the top teams in their regional. With two Senior setters leading the way in Kolbeck and Livermore, Gehlen will look to make a push to get back to Cedar Rapids. Northwest Iowa is always loaded with top talent. Gehlen has played a tough schedule and their experience will be needed with the likes of Siouxland Christian and Newell-Fonda in their regional.
