The Mukwonago Indians took on the Muskego Warriors for their senior night match. With pre-match flowers, posters, videos and a little bit of emotion reality sets in that this could be the last time these girls play on their home court. However, the student section of Mukwonago was not going to let this group finish their home court careers without the school’s full support. I typically try to sit in the bleachers near the top directly in line with the net if possible away from all students and parents. Off to my left was a section of Camouflaged students led by who I assume is Nick by the chants cheering him on after parting the student and parent sections and sprinting up the bleachers. That energy and support is just so unique to high school sports and makes this game so special. It’s not every day you see a camo Konga line as your between set entertainment. (click below)
Seniors
Nicole Pozorski and Erin Powers have been the statistical leaders on this team this season as well as being major contributors during the last 3 seasons. Nicole surpassed 1,000 assists in her Varsity career earlier in September to go along with her 2nd Team All-Conference nod a season ago. Erin also hit a major milestone recording her 1000th career dig. Both have added to those totals and cemented themselves as some of the best in their perspective positions. Both have made cases to earn All-Conference awards again this season. Nicole is on pace to exceed 150 kills, 50 aces, 300 digs, and 500 assists in her final high school season. Erin will attempt to pass the 300 kills and 400 dig season totals with their last conference match against Arrowhead and then playoffs.
While Erin and Nicole get most of the attention, the rest of the senior class has stepped up as the season has progressed. Sarah Pavletich and Dru Henning have solidified their position as their starting middles. They both hit the 100 kill mark after their Senior Night performances Thursday. At one point on Thursday Sarah earned 3 of 5 Mukwonago points with 2 block kills and a kill. That late run helped propel the Indians to 3 sets to none victory over Muskego. Mukwonago has needed a middle presence to take some pressure off the pins. Sarah and Dru’s success couldn’t have happened at a better time as the Indians prepare for the WIAA playoffs. Dru is making a case for her to repeat as Classic 8 Honorable Mention from a year ago.
Early in the season, Mukwonago needed to find contributors to replace last seasons’ Classic 8 Player of the Year Alayna Jansky and 2nd Team All-Conference selection Hannah Powers. The lineups varied to start the season but the final two seniors of the graduating class found themselves playing key roles down the stretch. Hannah Pampuch led the team with 4 total blocks on Senior Night, giving Muskego outsides fits throughout the match. Brianna Konitzer passed the 150 dig milestone for the season including 11 digs (2nd on the team) against the Warriors. Both had career nights as they got one step closer to wrapping up their high school volleyball careers.
High school may only last 4 years, but it creates memories and friendships that last a lifetime. These 6 seniors have left their mark on Mukwonago and will look to finish their senior years with a push for the State Tournament. The future of Mukwonago volleyball has great role models in front of them and if they show the same heart, dedication, and pride these 6 have shown continued success will surely follow. These seniors were able to celebrate a decisive 3-0 victory of Muskego and will look to upset the top-seeded Arrowhead Warhawks next week.
