With top setters quarterbacking these teams, they are in good hands to give themselves a chance to get to Cedar Rapids. From Northwest Iowa to Southeast Iowa around the Quad Cities, there is plenty of talent and leadership who can really be a catalyst to a successful run come late October/early November.
Morgan Tupper – Nevada (Title Photo)
Tupper runs a 5-1 for Nevada who just picked up a conference title and with their balance and athleticism, they will be a tough opponent to contend with. Tupper is a 5’10 Senior setter who runs the show from setting the pin and running a really clean slide where her middles are sure to terminate. Great hands and physicality at the net along with the IQ to know when to dump really puts her into an elite company.
Summer Brand – Mount Vernon
Summer Brand of Mt. VernonSeeing Brand play for Mount Vernon last weekend was a treat with her ability to dish to plenty of hitters who are very terminal for the Mustangs. Brand has Iowa commit Lauren Schrock on the outside as well as a really dynamic athlete in Natalie Welch on the right side. With solid first contacts from Jorie Randall at libero, Brand is able to keep the defense off balance by running a really efficient offense.
Emma Jenness – Spirit Lake
Jenness has been a great all-around athlete for Spirit Lake in multiple sports, but is one of the leaders in the Indians surge in the rankings as well as being one of the top teams in Northwest Iowa. Jenness averages just under 10 assists per set and will most likely eclipse the 1,000 assist mark this season. Fellow Seniors Emma Loveall and Jordynn Hamm have been her favorite targets so far this season combining for over 800 kills.
Morgan Peterson – West Liberty
West Liberty is a real scrappy group that has found themselves among the top teams in Class 3A. Morgan Peterson brings plenty of experience as well as a great release to put the ball up to her top two attackers in Macy Daufeldt and Martha Pace. Peterson can also make her presence known at the net with the strong block and also has over 150 digs on the season.
Ashlynn Tank – New Hampton
This is Tank’s first year running the show full time for New Hampton who is coming off a state tournament appearance in 2018. Tank was a key contributor on the team as a defensive specialist, but this year has racked up nearly 800 assists and 150 digs. Her favorite target has been Rachel Rinken who averages just over three kills per set.
