Got a chance and for some of these teams they will be looking to make some noise, turn some heads and find a way to play for a chance for a state tournament. Who will be key in the regional semifinals coming up on Tuesday, October 29.
Lineya Wells – Sioux City East (Title Photo – PhotoCred: Sioux City Journal)
East has racked up 25 wins and has floated in and out of the Class 5A rankings. With a rigorous schedule, Wells has been the attacking leader with over 300 kills on the season. She will be a big go-to for the Black Raiders as they take on Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln who is one of the favorites in Region 1. They are very familiar with Abe Lincoln, losing 0-3 and 1-2 in a tournament.
Ella Becker – Ankeny Centennial
Centennial is back and picking up momentum at just the right time. With Devyn Robinson and Calea Jones leading the way as attackers, there are underclassmen who are ready to make a name for themselves. Ella Becker was one of the standouts defensively at the Westside Tournament at CR Jeff where Ankeny had themselves a day finishing second behind Dowling. Becker is quick, reads well, and is able to provide a spark from left-back to get the Jags rolling.
Avery Kroll – Waterloo West
West has been turning heads throughout the season with finding themselves ranked among the top 15. Kroll is a Northern State commit and recently surpassed 1,000 kills on the season. She can handle a high volume of swings and has the IQ to score points in a variety of ways. West will take on Johnston.
Liz Pierce – Southeast Polk
Pierce can do a little bit of everything. From setting to blocking and defending, she even has found a way to score points on the second contact as well. Incredibly dynamic and a key part to the success of SEP this year.
Anna Marvelli – Indianola
Marvelli is having quite the Senior year which comes at no surprise with her ability to contribute in so many different ways. With well over 300 kills, 250 digs, and even over 100 assists she has been a stat machine this season, again just more evidence of her all-around game. Indianola will play Southeast Polk where SEP won their only matchup of the season on opening night.
Maren Palmer of Des Moines RooseveltMaren Palmer – Des Moines Roosevelt
Roosevelt is right where they need to be in the postseason having won 12 of their past 14. A consistent contributor who can make it happen for the Roughriders is setter, Maren Palmer. With over 600 assists on the season and over 100 digs, Palmer also leads the team with 54 assists.
Cassidy Boche – Cedar Rapids Jefferson
Boche has been a key piece for Jefferson the past couple years from the outside, bringing plenty of experience from last year where she was a key part of their state tournament run. The Mount Mercy commit has a big swing on the pin and is always available for the J-Hawks. Boche has over 300 kills and is averaging nearly four kills per set.
Johnaizjha Angel – Bettendorf
Bettendorf has over 20 wins and is part of a Quad Cities regional where the teams are all too familiar with each other. Angel has nearly 200 kills and is hitting .278 and is one of the team leaders with 69 total blocks. Bettendorf will take on Davenport North, who they beat the very first match of the season 3-1.
