Here’s a look at five standouts that won’t be on the floor during the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament.
Kelsey Brangers (Jr., L, Central Hardin): Central Hardin suffered a heartbreaking loss to Elizabethtown in the 5th Region title match. Brangers, a libero, excelled for Central Hardin throughout her junior season, compiling 561 digs, 124 assists, 54 aces and 21 kills.
Kristen Clemons (Sr., MB, Sacred Heart): A longtime leader for Sacred Heart, Clemons thrived at the net in her latest campaign. The productive Clemons ended her senior season with 364 kills, 53 blocks, 71 digs, 49 aces and 13 assists. The Valkyries lost to Assumption in the semifinals of the 7th District Volleyball Tournament.
Lane Jenkins (Sr., S, Lafayette): One of the top high school volleyball players in Lexington, Jenkins continues to earn numerous honors. Jenkins helped to lead the Generals throughout the 2019 season. Lafayette claimed 26 wins but fell in the opening round of the 43rd District Volleyball Tournament.
Olivia Mitchell (Jr., MB, Caldwell County): The versatile Mitchell has played numerous positions throughout her prep volleyball career. Her junior season ended following Caldwell County’s loss to eventual champion Henderson County in the 2nd Region Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. As a junior, Mitchell delivered over 600 kills.
Lucy Trump (So., OH, Ryle): Among the state’s top young high school volleyball players, Trump landed 435 kills for Ryle during her sophomore season, a campaign which ended with a loss to eventual champion Notre Dame in the opening round of the 9th District Volleyball Tournament. Trump has already recorded over 1,000 kills in her high school career.
