Continue ReadingBroken Bow (32-2) has put the petal to the metal this season with their motto “All gas, no breaks!” After a district final loss to St. Paul in 2018, Broken Bow finally made it to state and strives to be playing on Saturday. The Indians last appeared at state in 2000.
With the only bumps in the road this season being #1 seed St. Paul (33-0, 2018 3rd Place at State) and #3 seed Lincoln Lutheran (34-3, 2018 State Runner-Up), the Indians pulled off some monumental wins. The semifinals of the Seward Invitational in mid-September pitted the Indians against #2 seed Wahoo (28-3, 2017 & 2018 State Champs) in the semifinals and the Indians prevailed winning two sets to none; the only C-1 team to beat Wahoo this season.
Since then, Broken Bow won the Southwest Conference for the first time since 1988.
#5 seed Broken Bow faces #4 seed Wayne (29-5) in the first round on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln North Star High School. With a win the Indians could face St. Paul again in the semifinals on Friday at 1:00 at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.
7th year head coach Skylar Morris reached 100 wins last season and would like nothing better to add some more this weekend. Coach Morris comments on team bonding and team unity, “We have done a lot! We have a big team bonding event during conditioning week and brought in a lady who does these sort of things and really pushed our team out of their comfort zone and become good teammates. We have had multiple suppers and meetings to carry over from that.”
The Indians will rely on 2018 Class C-1 Honorable Mention senior Majesta Valasek at the net and sophomore setter Kailyn Scott with over 1,000 set assists in her career so far. But, they have a core group of athletes ready to battle!
