For setters and attackers, they can count on a solid first contact from these liberos coming to the event who are some of the best in the state. They bring an athletic, all around game, reflecting the strong training they are getting through their high school and club programs. Here are some athletes who will be part of a solid first contact at the Top 250
Jadyn Jondle – Clarion-Goldfield-Dows
Jondle was part of a CGD squad that advanced to the final four of the Class 2A state tournament. With experience facing high level competition, being apart of Six Pack her club career, Jondle moves extremely well across the court and is always under control. From her calming presence to her platform, she’s just solid and someone the team can depend on. This past season Jondle had nearly 450 digs and a huge piece to CGD’s run which included a conference title as well.
Mia Gamet – Sergeant Bluff-Luton
Gamet claimed a state title with SBL this past high school season and will be looking to have a big club season for MVP out of Sioux City. While averaging nearly four digs per set, Gamet isn’t only solid with the first contact, but anticipates extremely well for the second contact, keeping the play alive. She will bring a physical presence to the court, and like the rest of this libero crew, knows how to play in a big game.
Tatum Carlson – Tri-Center Neola
Carlson comes from the Class of 2022 and is already having quite a career at Tri-Center. As a Freshman, Carlson was a key member of Tri-Center’s run to the state tournament. She followed that up her Sophomore year leading the team in kills as well as digs with over 350. She is an all-around player, but could have a bright future as a libero at the next level.
Kinsie Zinnel – Boone
Zinnel is sneaking up on the radar from the Class of 2021 after having a breakout Junior season. With 500 digs and a spot on the Class 4A West All District West team, Zinnel will be one to watch from the libero spot this Saturday, as well as the 2020 club season where she will play for Iowa Heart.
Zika in the grey libero jersey.Trinity Zika – Marion
Zika was one of the top liberos in the WaMaC which is always deep with volleyball talent. She was the consistent first contact for Marion all season long en route to a state tournament appearance. Zika is solid in serve receive and also collected Class 4A All District honors as well as 2nd Team All State honors. Zike will play for Adrenaline out of Cedar Rapids this upcoming club season.
Ella Meyer – Western Dubuque (Title Photo)
Meyer took the state by storm with her Western Dubuque teammates who were a Cinderella team dancing all the way to a state runner up finish. Western Dubuque defeated Dubuque Wahlert in regional play and then come back from being down 0-2 to defeat Cedar Rapids Xavier. Meyer was the starting libero for a young Bobcat squad. She will be heading to the Top 250, along with her high school teammate and 2nd Team All-State outside hitter, Meredith Bahl.
Wedgbury #14Emmy Wedburgy – Cedar Falls
The athleticism of Wedgbury is what sets her apart from plenty of others when it comes to being a versatile athlete. Wedgbury and fellow Top 250 athlete, Saari Kuehl have been strong beach athletes along with Halia Mahi, Nohea Mahi, Kaebre Sullivan, and Meredith Street. Wedgbury can play as a libero, defensive specialist, or this fall she won a state title with Cedar Falls where she saw time as a right side. Her versatility would be welcome in any gym.
