Continue ReadingThere are certain combos I just love to see click. One of the many things about volleyball is that athletes can’t do it by themselves. They can’t set to themselves or pass to themselves as a setter. Although some of my favorite duos and combos are graduating, there are still plenty who will be ones to watch this upcoming club season that will be sure to make the highlight reel.
Hey don’t forget about #8 @vballphy for @Premier_VB – the @VB_Ankeny Iowa native is playing lights out. So fun to watch. Committed to @NDvolleyball pic.twitter.com/S2ym9ig6VB

Phyona Schrader and Lindsay Krause – Nebraska Premier 17 Gold
These are two of the top players in the country. Schrader is the top prospect in Iowa out of Ankeny who will head to Notre Dame while Krause is the highly touted recruit out of Skutt Catholic in Omaha and will be heading to Nebraska. Great athletes, great people who will be a connection that may be one of the best at the 17s level not only in the Midwest, but in the country. With Schrader in the front row, 6’0 tall and left-handed, stresses the defense so much and can create plenty of space for Krause to terminate with multiple shots. This is going to be such a fun team to watch.
Absolutely loooved watching @MadiKubik play, but Hayden Kubik is not the future, but the NOW! Having such a strong tournament for @CISvolleyball pic.twitter.com/g2VkCKVUFl

Lauren Carter and Hayden Kubik – Club Ignit Select 16 Blue (IA)
These two took the country by storm last year at the Triple Crown as they led their team to a second place finish in the 15s division. They would go on to earn an At-Large bid for USAV 15 Open in Indy. Carter is a dynamic, high IQ setter who can get everyone involved in her offense. She will head to Denver following her prep career. The “Kubik” name is definitely familiar in the Midwest. Hayden Kubik made a name for herself at Triple Crown and is now one of the top prospects out of Iowa. Her older sister, Madi was just named National Freshman of the Year at Nebraska. This will be a team to keep tabs on throughout the whole year, Club Ignit Select is based out of West Des Moines area.
Kennedi Orr and Erin Lamb/Ava Moes – Northern Lights 17-1 (MN)
Erin Lamb committed to KentuckyI think I say this every year, but the 17s age division is going to be ridiculous this season and Northern Lights has the Queen in the game of hearts that is just going to be a major gamechanger. Kennedi Orr, one of the top Class of 2021 recruits who will team up with Krause at Nebraska will be playing for the Northern Lights 17-1 squad after winning a USAV 17 Open title with Northern Lights in 2018. Erin Lamb (Kentucky commit) and Ava Moes (Tennessee commit) will be her middles or Moes could see time on the right side. This team has a ton of depth, but with Orr on the court, there really is no bad combination here.
Kora Ruff and Macy Daufeldt – Iowa Rockets 16-R (IA)
These two continue to get better every time they step on the court. Ruff just has this sixth sense to the game and is so smart on what to do in each situation. Daufeldt has always had athleticism, the state champion long jumper was one of the top outside hitters in Iowa this past Fall and her all-around game is really coming along from being a pinpoint serve receive and developing a bag of shots she can go to in being uber-creative in scoring points. Daufeldt has already committed to Drake while Ruff will be one of the top setters to be recruited out of Iowa in 2020. Keep tabs on Calia Clubb as well for this team who is a lethal threat on both pins.
Kora Ruff – cold blooded. @PVVolleyball takes set one over Liberty pic.twitter.com/s6VjbO3i7M

Karlee Lois and Karina Leber – Wisconsin Juniors 18-1 (WI)
Bolwerk #40 settingSince watching these two work together since their Sophomore year, they just seem to find each other along the net. Lois is the savy, all around setter, with a left hand that can hurt you from corner to corner on second contact. Leber is long, strong, and athleticism that is tough to top. Leber will head to Colorado State and Lois will go to Wheeling Jesuit, a top D2 program out of West Virginia. This Wisconsin Juniors team is always gritty and has proven they can compete with some of the top teams in the country.
Brooke Bolwerk and Kiersten Kraus – FC Elite 17 Navy (WI)
They are both setters and typically play opposite of each other – how does that make for a solid combo? They both bring different styles to the court where they complement each other extremely well. Bolwerk is the steady, consistent, cerebral type player where her tempos and placement are near flawless. Kraus’s athleticism just might be among the best in the Class of 2021. She can jump, attack, and set a variety of tempos and brings a really physical style to the net. Bolwerk will head to Minnesota State-Mankato and Kraus has committed to Kent State.
