Here are 8 NKY Sophomores to watch.
Taylor Preston-St. Henry Crusaders VolleyballTaylor Preston (NKYVC 16 Tsunami) 6’2 – MH/MB: The NKGVCA Division 2 player of the year helped lead St. Henry High-school to the Region 9 finals. As a sophomore, she led the Crusaders in total kills and blocks. Preston tallied an impressive 404 kills on a 43.9% hitting percentage and 90 blocks. Preston returns to NKYVC 16-1 Tsunami, a team looking to claim a national title after coming in second in American at Junior Nationals in 2019.
Cecilia Shick (NKYVC 16 Tide) 6’0 – MH/MB: Shick, a second-year starter for the Highland Bluebirds, continued to show as the teams’ go-to attacker. Shick was named to the NKGVCA Division 2 Second team. She led the bluebirds in blocks (62) and was second on the team for kills (277).
Ava Kidd (NKJV 16 Blue) 6’1 – MB/OPP: The first-year starter for the Ryle Raiders, brought offensive and defensive momentum to the net. Kidd led Ryle with 59 total blocks, was third for kills (180), and attacked at an impressive 44.6%.
Rylee McKinney 10th Region All-Tournament TeamRylee McKinney (NKYVC 16 Tide) 6’0 – OH/OPP: McKinney was named to the 37th District First Team, 10th Region First Team, and NKGVCA Division 1 Second Team. As a second-year starter for Campbell County High School the sophomore played 6 rotations as an outside. McKinney was second on the team for kills (334), second on the team for digs (425) and led serving aces (78).
Ellee Depenbrock (NKYVC 16 Tide) 6’0 – OH/OPP: Depenbrock transferred from Notre Dame Academy to Conner high school to begin her sophomore season. She instantly became a standout player for the cougars and was named to the NKGVCA Division 1 Honorable Mention Team. Depenbrock led the Cougars with 232 Kills and was second on the team for digs (232).
Abby Schafer (NKYVC 16 Tsunami) 5’7 – L/DS: Schafer was a second-year Libero for St. Henry High School. She was named to the NKGVCA Division 2 Second Team. Abby led the Crusaders with 532 digs, 415 receptions, and 61 aces. Schafer will return with Preston to NKYVC 16 Tsunami.
Lucy Trump* (Tri-State Elite 17 Blue) 6’0 – OH/OPP: Trump was named 9th Region Player of the Year, NKGVCA Division 1 first team, and to First Team for both 9th Region and 33rd District. She led the Ryle Raiders with 436 Kills and 50 service aces. Trump is the only player on this list already committed to play on at the collegiate level (Notre Dame).
Brittney Tackett (NKYVC 16 Tide) 5’3 – S: As a second-year starter for Simon Kenton Tackett ran the court with a 5-1. She racked up 886 assists, 106 kills, 40 service aces, and 154 digs.
*Lucy Trump is a sophomore who will compete at the 17s age-level.
