At the first tournament of the season, connections are still being made with hitters and there tend to be a few speed bumps along the way, but there were some setters who truly played gritty volleyball. They worked hard to better the ball every time it came to them, didn’t blink in the face of adversity, and were energizers and leaders for their team.
Mackenzie Scholz – NW Stars 15 Black
Mackenzie talked all over the court this weekend. She was always working with her teammates and encouraging them on every point. Her coverage on the court was awesome and she always doubled down and got the job done.
Alivia Jeanquart – Impact 15 National
Alivia is not afraid to take risks. She doesn’t always make the obvious set which keeps opposing blockers on their toes. She sees the court well and led her team to a thrilling championship win in the 15s division!
Sydney Heinzelmann – Midwest Penguins 17 Red
Sydney is a true energizer on the court. She is excited every play, win or lose and will do everything in her power to better the ball. She seems to have a great relationship with everyone she is on the court with and is a great leader.
Sophia Schneider – FC Elite 16 Navy
Sophia is a workhorse on the court. She sets when she is in the back row and is the right side when she is in the front. No matter where she is or in what rotation, Sophia is a critical part of every play. She isn’t afraid to dig deep or push the ball pin to pin from anywhere on the court.
Taylor Vanden Berg – Impact 18 National – Prep Dig Rank #31 – Committed to Wingate
Taylor runs an incredibly fast offense. She puts the ball where it needs to be and her hitters need to be ready at all times. She has an insane amount of power and can push the ball pin to pin with apparent ease. She isn’t afraid to double down in tough plays and take risks.
Grace Gilkay – FVP 16 Green
Grace always manages to find a way to make plays no matter the pass or if they are in or out of system. She is a fun setter to watch because she makes snap decisions that are usually solid. Her ability to read and react to passes quickly makes her an efficient setter and a good presence on the court.
Ella Weber – IMPACT 16 National
Ella is a very smart setter who runs a very smooth offense. Her offense isn’t overly fast but it is efficient. She works well with all of her hitters and moves the ball around well. She is also hard to read on the court.
These setters truly impressed throughout the weekend. Whether they were on a hot streak or digging themselves out of a rut, these setters were consistent and driven on every single point. Even though it is only the first weekend of play, they were confident and energetic on the court, comfortable leading their respective teams in every match.
