Continue ReadingWhat is great about the JVA Mizuno Showcase is that it draws team from metro area such as Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Des Moines, and other teams throughout multiple Midwest states. This also brings out coaches who have been able to find recruiting success from these clubs. There will be coaches from across the Midwest and beyond. Here are athletes from the Class of 2021 to Class of 2023, athletes who are looking to zero in on their college decision as well as those just starting their recruiting process. Here are some athletes from four states who should be on your “Watch List” this weekend at the Dells.
Saari Kuehl – Six Pack 17U (IA)
KuehlClass of 2021
Kuehl has come on really strong the past year earning back to back All State honors as an outside hitter. What has evolved in her game is her ability to develop into a six rotation player who can serve receive, pass, and score from the backcourt. Her overall athleticism and strength are on the rise too. An athlete like Kuehl will be scary dangerous who is continuing to develop and has a lot of potential where she will continue to develop and improve not only in her high school career, but at the next level.
Ayanna Manikham – VC United Elite 161 (IL)
Class of 2022
Springy, physical and a major snap on her swing, Manikham will be a key piece to the VC United 161 Elite squads success over the weekend at the JVA Mizuno Showcase. After seeing this team play at Triple Crown, they have the pieces to really make a run this season with balance and athleticism at every position. Manikham has a major upside and I would love to see what she can do off one foot.
JondleJadyn Jondle – Six Pack 17U (IA)
Class of 2021
Solid, steady, consistent. Teams love a libero who makes difficult plays look routine and that’s what Jondle can do. An all-around athlete, she’s smooth on the court and is accustomed to playing at a high level. Six Pack doesn’t have a ton of matches on AES and hasn’t even played many matches with a full squad with many of their athletes being key basketball players for their high school squads. They will be a major sleeper in the 18s Division this weekend.
Sophie Jesewitz – Mizuno M1 17-1 (MN)
Class of 2021
High contact, physical athlete, Jesewitz is the real deal. M1 has a really fun 17s team that has a lot of athleticism and power. Jesewitz was extremely key for Wayzata High School out of suburban Minneapolis in their run to finishing second in Minnesota’s largest class this past Fall. With an improved all-around game, she will continue to not only be a force at the net, but also in the backrow as a primary passer and scorer.
McKenna Scheib – Six Pack 17U (IA)
Class of 2021
Scheib is another who comes from a really strong high school program in Ankeny High just outside of the Des Moines area where she was a key piece to their semifinal finish in Iowa’s largest class. Scheib will be one who can score off one foot or put up a big block at the net out of the middle. Another force in the middle for Six Pack is Hailey Pollock who is a Western Illinois commit.
Jackie Yang – Minnesota Volleyball Academy MVA 17 Elite
YangClass of 2022
Yang plays up on the 17 Elite team who is incredibly disciplined and well trained. A rising libero in the Minnesota Class of 2022, Yang provides a solid first contact for a high tempo offense for MVA. This squad is carrying plenty of momentum after a strong finish in Vegas over Presidents Day weekend.
Rylie Gregg – Motion MVP 17 Blue (WI)
Class of 2021
Gregg provides a big left handed swing for Motion MVP 17 Blue out of the Milwaukee area. A solid arm on the right side as well as a solid block, Gregg provides a presence offensively and defensively. MVP is another sleeper in the Challenge Brackets who will be a major threat to compete against power pool teams.
Addie Schmotzer – Capital 15 Adidas
Class of 2023
Seeing Schmotzer play, I totally saw flashes of former Capital Volleyball standout in Kiana Schmitt who is currently at Creighton. Schmotzer is long, athletic and is so smooth with how she can move along the net. Her ceiling is so high and will definitely have a major impact at Edgewood High School out of Madison in her Sophomore year as well as the rest of the 2020 club season.
Maya Wegand – Impact 16 National
Dorci WalkerClass of 2023
Wegand is playing up on the Impact 16 National team out of the Appleton area. Wegand is a high flying pin who can really sky to contact on the outside, but she’s also a really strong backcourt player as well who can serve receive, pass, and attack from anywhere on the court.
Dorci Walker – Wisconsin Ice 16 Purple
Class of 2022
Walker emerged this past high school season as one of the top players out of Northern Wisconsin. Just a Sophomore, Walker definitely has a physicality to her game where she can score points out of any rotation. At the 16s level, she already has the athleticism to compete at the next level and with continued training will be a nice steal for college coaches who will be in attendance this weekend.
Olivia Teske – Mizuno M1 16-1
Class of 2022
New on the radar, but definitely making her presence known, Teske is an electric 5’11 outside hitter who just has this spark about her. She plays high, has an aggressive approach and isn’t afraid to let it rip. Positive body language and enthusiasm for the game and her teammates, Teske scores points and she is still pretty raw with her training. Oh, and she has an up to date highlight video! Plenty of times at Prep Dig we hear of players, or see players, but would love to see what else they can do. Being able to find a highlight video that is current is so key for these athletes to be found for these college coaches who are looking to recruit them.
Valerie Nutakor – Illini Elite 16 Cardinal
Class of 2022
Versatility is so key for many of these athletes and for Nutakor, she is a pin who can score from the left or right side. A great jumper with a big arm, she is part of an incredibly balanced team from Illini Elite 16 Cardinal who will be in a power pool this weekend. A Friday matchup with VC United 161 will be a really highly contested battle.
