During the high school season Becker, in the Mississippi 8, experienced both success and failure. They finished in the bottom half of their conference and their record was slightly under 500. Line-up changes, minor injuries, and tough opponents tested their skills. But electing to keep nearly the same squad for club season, may be what they need.
In the 2020 NCR Region Rank Tournament, the 17-1’s team gave a perfect performance. This included wins against Hammerheads 16 and 17 and High Voltage .
Next, they took on the Big City Luau. They ended with a 5th place finish in the club division. Notable wins included SMV 16-1 and Vital Volleyball 16-1. Both are elite level teams from reputable programs. Inferno’ only loss was to Illinois Jrs 17-1 and Pentagon 17 Blue. The names behind the 10-2 record are as follows:
Kady Lindbom Is the leader of the team. She is a 5’11” junior. During high school she led the team in kills and was a close second in nearly every stat. They rely heavily on her for both offense and defense. She is a smart player who regularly hits the line, uses off speeds and power tips to score.
Ellie Wenner is a gifted setter. At 5’7” she is capable of running a 5-1 offense but she is often used in a 6-2 too. She is a player that makes everyone around her better. Wenner makes few errors and makes big saves out of the net.
The team’s defensive specialist is Kyanna Marx. At 5’8” she is able to cover the court better than some. Her intensity is matched only by her knowledge of the game. They are able to run a fast offense and tandems because of her consistent effort.
Evelyn Kraft is the teams starting middle. She is the youngest and tallest on the team: 6′ freshman. This will be a great season for her to develop even more. A natural blocking at the net and has a fast arm swing. Her potential to become a top athlete for the Becker program is just starting.
The team heads into the Northstar President’ Day Tournament with gifted athletes, impressive record, and experience playing together. Look for them to finish in the top 5.
