- SWC 17-1: Over 10 years ago, Southwest Christian High School head coach Greg Sayuk, started the SWC Juniors
Straub 2023
volleyball club. The SW Christian high school team ended with a 19-8 record. The club has a strong list of alumni, many who were All-State and played in college. The 17-1’s roster is made up of many young players: Payton Duis, Lydia Smith, Kaylee Gillette and Mehlayna Straub. The youthful team is small in size but has big skill. They have consistently placed among the middle of the pack in their larger tournaments, but not one that can be overlooked. - Inferno 17-1: This group of players finished 5th at Big City Luau in the 17’s Club division. In fact, they only lost two matches. Noteworthy wins included: SMV 16-1’s and Vital Volleyball 17-1 Gold. They will be at the Rockford Rumble this weekend and the USAV Regional Nationals the following.
- MN Select 17-2’s: It can often feel like the 2’s team for a club is brushed aside, but this MN Select team demands attention. They have big hitters (Skya Favor– 6’2”, Olivia Carel- 6’1”) and big names (Klaudia Wachholz –Mayer Lutheran, Aniki Bolles – STMA.) Their setter, Paige Sheehan – North Branch, does an exceptional job running a smooth, powerful offense. They will be strutting their stuff for all 2’s teams, proving that is just a number as they make their way through a cross- country schedule including Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin Dells and Orlando.
- KEVC 17-2: Again, the Kandi Elite 17-1’s has been recognized as a leading team in the age group, but the 17-2’s have a group of solid athletes with great passion. Most recently, they finished in 1st place in 17 Premiere at NSVU. This included an anticipated match-up between the two KEVC 17’s teams. The scores were: 26-24, 21-25, 15-13 as the 2’s team edged out the “top” team. This is why having multiple teams at every level is so beneficial. These players push those around them on their own team and others. We’re sure the player and families were thrilled to come out on top, proving they have the talent to be known as a 1’s team too.
